Next day

Today was the day where I was supposed to go to the market to buy groceries.

As I was about to walk out the door, I saw Taehyung walk in the same direction as me.

Okay, well I guess he's coming with me.

We don't own cars, so we have to walk 3 miles to get in town. I glanced at Taehyung and he had a black hoodie over his head.

The walk was going to be long and I didn't want to make it awkward.

I turned my head to the side, and I couldn't help but notice that he looked really sad. He always looked so sad. It somehow made me forget that I was miserable as well.

I just decided to be blunt about it and ask, "Why are you always sad?"
I don't know why I was so brave around him. Maybe because I knew he was different. He's not like the other ignorant men here in North Korea.

His expressions did not change, he didn't even seem surprised I spoke to him.

He licked his lips and stares at the floor. I momentarily stopped walking so he could have a moment, but he just kept walking.

I guess this was a sensitive topic. I didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable so I just kept walking as well.

The whole 2 hour walk, we did not speak another word to each other.

By the time we made it to the market. We could only get a limited amount of items because we were not rich, and I only got the essential items.

As I was turning the corner, I saw Taehyung buy lots of meat and vegetables. He must've gone crazy! Meat is the most expensive thing here, we actually only get to eat meat once every 2 years.
But to my surprise, he was buying pounds of it.

We were on our way to walk back, and he was holding his groceries, and made a gesture to hold mine as well.

Of course, as a women I had to decline.

I finished making dinner just in time.
As always, because my husband likes to eat everything nice and hot.

It was currently 9:23 pm and my husband opened the door. He was still wearing his business attire clothing.

I rushed to him quickly and bowed to him 90 degrees.

"Aish" he said while shoving my head to the side.

He walked into the dinning table and began eating.

Taehyung walked in and started eating as well.

I was about to go upstairs when my husband called my name.

"DID YOU STEAL MY MONEY TO BUY THIS MUCH MEAT?"

I slowly turned my body back and made eye contact with my husband.

He slammed the table and yelled,"I CAN NOT FUCKING BELIEVE YOU."

My husband then dropped his fork and charged after me.

But then Taehyung was quick to his feet, and grabbed his arms.

"Hyung! Hyung! It was me, I bought the meat."

My husband then shoved Taehyung to the floor with both hands and slapped me in the face.

"You need a beating everyday! I can't stand to see your face."

I barely flinched.

He was about to punch me again when Taehyung started chocking his neck from behind. Taehyung had him in a headlock.

They were struggling back and forth but my husband was obviously stronger, and he flipped Taehyung over.
And started punching his face over and over. His eyes started to look swollen. There was just so much blood everywhere now.

For the first time in my life.

For the first time in my life I wanted to hit my husband back. I didn't want him to hurt Taehyung anymore. Not because I cared about him like that, but because he was innocent in this scenario

I decided not to.

I looked away and started waiting for my beating afterwards.

And the rest became history.
