Chapter 3

Rachel's P.O.V

The next day I walked with Luke to school. It was like a daily routine, until we entered classes with James. James would stare at him like he was something disgusting and Luke would always tense up. So after school when Luke and I were walking home I decided to bring it up.

"So you and James aren't getting on well"

"If I had control over him I'd never let him near you" he says looking down at his feet. I feel an ache inside of me.

"Why?" I ask

"I just don't trust him."

"Luke, you've only known him for a few days."

But I could see where he was coming from. I too didn't trust James. I didn't even wanna call him my best friend. But I had no else. Except Luke.

"You didn't hear what he said at the mall after you left"

"What? What did he say?"

He sighs shaking his head telling me to forget it but I can't. I won't

"Luke..."

"He said he'll make you yours and..."

He trailed off looking into the distance

"And I'm jealous okay?" His voice startles me

"I'm mad because he looks at you like he only wants one thing" his voice was raised into a yell and I tried not to look startled.

"Why... Why are you always like this?" I say quietly.

"Like what? Yelling all the time?"

I nod and all I can hear is my heart pounding in my ears.

"Rachel... You don't know my past. And as much as I want you to trust me, you just can't. Because... What I've done is horrible and unforgivable."

I want to say, but I will forgive you. But maybe I won't. Maybe I won't even want to see him anymore if he tells me.

That night all I can think is what Luke said about being jealous. No one would even look at me that way. No one has ever asked me out, and it's been rubbed in my face a couple of times which ended up me breaking into tears but getting over it the next day. Maybe he was just saying that to make me feel better. My mind was confused and I finally drifted off into sleep.

Luke's P.O.V

I couldn't help but feel disgusted in myself for yelling at Rachel. It wasn't her fault, but then again, I couldn't tell her my past. She'd just hate me and I will not let my demons win. Not this time.
