Disclaimer: I do not own Gravity Falls but I do own Strings
Colossus's P.O.V.
Zoran City, 31st century
My name is Colossus Equinox, and I guess I'm the one you'll have to blame for this mess. I thought I was done with adventures for a while. Turns out, trouble has a way of following me around. Guess I'm not done yet.
Sapphire High
Sapphire High. Built on top of a Sapphire Mine, protected by Sapphire's magic—this was where I spent my brief, somewhat weird youth.
I was probably the only girl in the whole school who wore boys' uniforms. You can't blame me. The skirts and short sleeves were way too uncomfortable. I liked to stay warm, feel relaxed. Pants just made more sense. Plus, with pants, I could spread out a little—let myself breathe. I mean, I'd do the same with a skirt if I had to, but pants were easier.
Mr. Genre our horse man teacher was up at the front, lecturing us about whatever it was he thought was important. Honestly, I wasn't paying attention. My mind was stuck on the clock—counting down the minutes until school was over.
That is, until I heard Nightmare.
Sitting on top of the kid's chair in front of me, she grinned—like the freaky demon she was. Her black cascading hair and her big red wings. No one else could see her, of course, but I could. Her name is Nightmare, or Akumu no Kyūketsuki if you want to get all formal about it. I call her Akumu.
"You're not listening to him, are you?" she taunted, her voice swirling in my mind.
I ignored her.
"Alright, class, remember, tomorrow is the Mystery Fair," Mr. Genre's voice snapped me back to attention. "You all need to have your projects ready tonight, and make sure they're finished!"
That was it. My stomach dropped. I froze, eyes wide. The Mystery Fair? I hadn't even started.
"Those of you who have your projects ready," Mr. Genre added.
I barely heard him. My heart was racing. I didn't even start the project
"Great," I muttered to myself.
Akumu laughed in my head. "You really forgot, didn't you?" She gave off an evil smirk.
I weaved my hands through my hair, trying to keep it together. "I didn't forget! I just didn't listen."
Mr. Genre kept going, but all I could focus on was the fact that I was going to be pulling an all-nighter. My mind raced. I couldn't be the only one who forgot, right?
"Hey, Colossus," Liv the ever so beautiful black bat girl a year younger than me leaned over from beside me, her voice with a little sass. She's been my friend since I was a little bat pup, we've been through a lot even when we had to live in the forest.
"You okay? You look like you're about to explode."
"Explode?" I half-laughed. "I just remembered I have zero time for a project, that's all."
Liv raised an eyebrow. "You? You always turn everything in on time. What happened?"
I was about to respond when Akumu interrupted again. "You really should've payed more attention."
I shot her a glare.
"Maybe you could just... skip the fair?" Liv suggested with a half-smile.
I shook my head. "I can't do that. I'm not that person."
But the truth? I really wanted to. The whole thing was just one big stress ball, and I hated it. And I really couldn't tell the teacher the real reason I didn't finish the project—saving the world didn't exactly help me prepare for school.
