Renjun x Jaemin

•Fluff/Angst

Trigger warning: Involves Alcohol addiction.

•••••

Everyone has flaws, Renjun knew this. No one is perfect, no matter how much you think they're perfect there is always someone out there who will be able to spot even the smallest of imperfections. However with Jaemin it was a different case. Even a passing stranger could spot the boys obvious flaw straight away. The strong scent of alcohol that seemed to follow him around like a perfume. The small stumbles that happened each time he takes a step. The bottle in his hand which he clutched to like it was his lifeline. It was very obvious what Jaemin's flaw was and it hurt Renjun's heart to see it.

Renjun and Jaemin were best of friends, well they were.
Lately Renjun had been distancing himself from the younger boy and his excessive drinking. They hadn't spoken a word to each other in months and as a result the drinking just got worse.

Jaemin started drinking twice as much as he originally had been as a way of coping with the unknown absence of his best friend. He had been emitted in hospital numerous times due to alcohol poisoning, injuries caused by his clumsy drunken state. And each time this happened Renjun was always the one who came to pick him up and bring him home. Jaemin tried his hardest to talk to Renjun, ask him why they had grown apart but the older refused to speak about it.

This was why Jaemin was so surprised when Renjun had agreed to meet him one night after work. The younger boy waited by the fountain in the town centre, wrapped up in a big coat, a scarf draped around his neck and his hands stuffed in his pockets. Snow lay on the ground in various places and he could even see the clouds emerging in the dark starry sky, a sure sign of more snow.

The crunching of footsteps grasps Jaemin's attention and his eyes lock with Renjun's, his heart skipping a beat or two. For a moment no words are shared, the two boys look at on another, waiting for something, anything to happen.

"What do you want Jaemin?" Renjun finally asks, stuffing his own hands in his pockets and pulling his scarf up, trying to cling on to any sort of warmth he can.

Jaemin winces at how harsh his words sounded. Had he really grown to despise him so much that he would question why he wanted to meet. He missed the days when Renjun would smile at him and they would chat about anything everything. Now he doesn't even get a simple hello.

"Can we go somewhere a little warmer?" Jaemin asks, watching his hot breath cloud up in front of his face. That alone was enough to make him shiver slightly.

Renjun's emotionless expression doesn't change. His eyes narrow slightly as he surveys Jaemin. "If you're going to suggest a bar forget it" he scoffs, turning on his heel and taking a step away. Of course Jaemin would ask to meet up so he would have a little company whilst he drank himself to death. That was all Renjun was good for lately.

"Wait!" A hand on Renjun's arm stops him, his heart speeding up just a little. It was the most contact they have had in a long time and Renjun feels a little warmer from the simple touch. He tried to swallow the lump that grew in his throat and told himself to calm down.
"I really want to talk to you" Jaemin begs, his voice hushed. Although Renjun still had his back to him he felt like he could still see the desperation on the younger boy's face "I miss you"

Those three simple words were enough for Renjun to drop his tense composure and relax a little. Finally he turns and his eyes meet Jaemin's once again. "Follow me"

With that Renjun walks off, Jaemin reluctantly letting go off his arm. He walks a few paces behind him, still not sure they were on good enough terms to walk side by side. The last thing he wanted to do was make Renjun uncomfortable and scare him away.

It wasn't long before they step inside a quiet coffee shop, the warmth engulfing them causing both boys to sigh in relief at the change in temperature. They find a table and order hot drinks to help warm themselves up a little more.

They sit opposite one another, neither of them speaking and Renjun refusing to look up from the table although he can feel Jaemin's gaze on him.
"What do you want?" He asks again, his eyes not moving up. His voice was a little softer than before but it still brought no comfort to Jaemin who wraps his hands around the hot porcelain mug, ignoring the scolding feeling it gave his cold skin.

He was silent for a moment, he had so much he wanted to say but there was one thing he needed to know before he poured his heart out to the boy in front of him.
"Do you hate me?" His voice wavers a little as he asks the question and he instantly swallows, hating how vulnerable he sounded.

Renjun's head snaps up and only now could Jaemin see the tears brimming his eyes. He knew he wouldn't let them fall, it was rare Renjun ever cried and he knew he wasn't worth crying over.
"Is that what you think? That I hate you?" He sounded disappointed and it caused Jaemin to slump in his seat, tears welling up in his own eyes. "I could never hate you Jaemin. I hate the things you do and I hate the fact that I can't hate you. But I don't hate you Jaemin"

By now Jaemin had let a tear fall, feeling it roll down his cheek and he quickly reaches up to wipe it away. He didn't want Renjun seeing him like this but he couldn't hold it in anymore. Usually when he felt this shitty he would grab a bottle of anything he could find that would make him tipsy enough to forget he was even sad.

"I'm so sorry Renjun"

Renjun had heard Jaemin say this a million times before however this time there was no slur to his words or the smell of alcohol in his breath. He was sober and this was enough for Renjun to know he was sincere.

When Jaemin doesn't hear Renjun say anything he assumed he didn't care. It honestly didn't surprise him. Jaemin had messed Renjun around so much that he wasn't expecting the older to accept his apology. Renjun had tried to help when his drinking got out of hand but he didn't listen, this whole thing was his fault and his fault alone.

Suddenly, Jaemin sees Renjun stand from his seat and instantly assumes he's leaving. He had heard what Jaemin had to say and that was, he was off. But to the younger boy's surprise Renjun wanders around the table, taking a seat beside Jaemin and engulfing him in a hug.

That was the exact moment Jaemin lost it. He lets out a choked sob, gripping onto Renjun in fear of him leaving.
Renjun rocks him slightly, rubbing his back comfortingly as he let the younger cry.

"Jaemin" he says softly, pulling away from the hug slightly, just enough to bring Jaemin's face close to his own and look into his teary eyes. "Please let me help you" he begs instantly earning a nod.

"O-okay, I don't want to loose you again" Jaemin replied, his hands grabbing fistfuls of Renjun's shirt in an attempt to keep him as close as possible.

Renjun moves his hand to wipe away the tears before leaning closer and placing a sweet kiss to Jaemin's lips. He could taste the salty tears and he could feel Jaemin pull him even closer, kissing him a little harder.

Both boys had been dreaming of this for so long. All those bottled up feelings now being spilt out and sheared.
They both pull away and for the first time that night both of them had a hint of a smile on their lips.

"I love you so much Jaemin and it hurts me to see you drown yourself in drink every night" Renjun says, resting his warm hand against the younger boys cheek.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know it hurt you" his eyes move down but Renjun tilts his chin upwards once again.

"Only sober thoughts from now on , promise?".

Jaemin smiles, his heart no longer being able to bottle up the love he felt for the boy in front of him. He would much rather get drunk off Renjun anyway.
"I promise".
