Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great week and been enjoying the series so far. I seriously could not have made it without your support, I truly appreciate the comments, suggestions, and the votes. To avoid any confusion, Alesta is the name I've given to the genderbent Radio Demon in this special series.
To readers who also enjoy reading about Sly Cooper, I have posted a new story called "All That Glitters" with some help from Okamisan7, who has written a well-written series based on the hit video game franchise too. I strongly recommend checking it out, it is amazing! :) So without further ado, let the story begin! :)
Halloween. Around this particular time of the year, Hell seemed to be at the height of utter chaos. Nightclubs were filled to maximum capacity with patrons dancing in obscene costumes and drinking till they were forced to leave or sent out on a stretcher. Brawls became more violent, especially if drugs were involved. The quieter demons did not dare to wander out late at night in fear that they would get dragged into an unexpected quarrel. But after the successful launch of her project, Charlie was determined to celebrate it with the guests of the Happy Hotel. Do something bold, daring, and exciting for everyone to enjoy.
It took almost a week of talking with her employees and the guests in between the usual rounds as manager, but Charlie proudly presented the solution during the usual nine-thirty staff meeting.
"How does a masquerade ball sound to you, everyone? We'll have music, alcohol, and entertainment!" Almost the entire crew liked their boss' idea, a few pitched in a few suggestions of their own to make it different while not getting too much bad attention from the media, especially if it was anchored by Katie Killjoy. Angel Dust wasn't too happy at the thought of being unable chaos but he knew better than badmouth Charlie under Vaggie's supervision.
[First Name] [Surname] stood against the wall, distancing himself from the group as he remained lost in his own thoughts. The idea of a masquerade ball did sound appealing...but just not the fact on what day it landed on. Halloween.
Will she be here on that night? Or will I have to wait a little longer till she comes down here? Anxiety washed over his body, only to be strengthened by resolve. I've been praying every night she would be in this place...so I could finish what we started. I'm prepared for what might happened. But...could I risk getting people involved when masks are being worn? [First Name] glanced around the room, with a narrowed gaze unconsciously rubbing a thumb over a clothed arm, where a crescent-shaped scar was concealed. These people...they're all I've got to keep me sane here. And there is no doubt in my mind she would harm them for her own amusement...and to see me break. Concealing our faces won't confuse her. She was clever like that. Lost in his thoughts [First Name] was unaware that a pair of hypnotic, ruby-red orbs fixated on him.
While hosting the masquerade ball sounded absolutely delightful, Alesta saw it as an opportunity to snatch what she had been desiring for quite some time: [First Name] [Surname].
As a serial killer who take careful consideration which hapless victim would be served on the dining room table and who will have the honor to share such a delicacy with her, the Radio Demon found a temporary companion in Mimzy. Sweet lovable Mimzy, whose voice could outshine most of the male tenors both in the human plane and down here in Hell. Mimzy, who still believed that they could reignite their relationship!
A row of yellow teeth stretched further from her signature smile. Yes, Mimzy is still dear to the Radio Demon but Alesta had no desire to repeat history. She wanted to move forward in her afterlife, and firmly believed that [First Name] [Surname] was the....no, he is the ideal companion. An absolute gem. Quiet, diligent in his work, and considerate of other demons; a stark contrast to a certain four-armed spider, who would be doing anything from getting high drugs to starting turf wars just to ease his boredom. Even Mimzy's enthusiasm and flirting with his werewolf coworkers tested Alesta's patience more than once.
But the best trait that this sweet gentleman displayed was that he didn't look at anyone else the way she looked for him, cared for him. No man, no woman, nobody would stand in her way to obtain what she wanted the most.
And yet...what was this fear she sensed from him, as she watched [First Name] continue his work day? He kept looking around the facility with such weariness, rubbing his arm...why did he look...scared?
That worried the Radio Demon, having her believe that maybe someone was doing something to such a wonderful man to cause him to act this way. It only ignited the fire inside her "heart", seemingly making her thoughts go dark as she moved away from where she hid to go find the offender, not knowing he was scared because of that person.
Unless...you want to call it a human.
[First Name] sighed and plopped down onto one of the couches in the main lobby, leaning his head back and letting his body relax after the heavy workload. He had been used to preparing for events Charlie would hold occasionally, but this one is bound to be big, extravagant, and over the top like she mentioned earlier on, so he could only expect his work load to continue to get heavier and heavier as the days go on.He felt himself relax slightly, only to jump at the slightest tapping of heels clicking against the marble floor. [First Name] felt some relief when he saw it was just Ms. Dolly from the fifth floor, leading her phantom entourage like a preening peacock. It wasn't 'her' footsteps; they were silent, and if you looked behind you, it would have already been too late. Another victim to add to the tally.
She had been a serial killer who had plagued [First Name]'s hometown with violence after escaping a psychiatric facility the night before Halloween. Four people she hunted, himself included. But there was no rhyme or reason in the heinous deeds she committed. She killed simply because she wanted to. No tragic backstory, nothing to give her even the smallest amount of empathy. If you, dear reader, have never believed in the boogeyman, then you should. Because that is what She is. [First Name] does not dare to speak the true identity of Her in case she was right around the corner.
But [First Name] survived that night, fighting against her supernatural strength and intelligence till the police arrived on the scene. She had been sent back to the institution, yet he waited. Waited until she broke out to finish her work. But by the time he had been killed in a motorcycle accident four years later, she never escaped. And here he was, still waiting.
Waiting to see just what she would do now that they're finally "together" again. [First Name] rubbed his temple and stood up, deciding if would be best to relax behind closed doors rather than out in the open where he was bound to be attacked if she showed up.
Sighing, [First Name] walked to the elevator and waited patiently for it to come down, unaware of Alesta watching him from afar, a smile that wasn't at all sweet on her face.
You may be asking why would I not address the antagonist by a name other than She and Her, especially since they obviously play a role in the reader's past life, and the answer actually comes from the inspiration of Her origins, a movie trailer that was recently released on YouTube featuring a classic villain we may be familiar with through growing up or social media. I want to make this particular tale as terrifying as possible, and I sincerely hope I will provide such entertainment and instill fear in time for All Hallows' Eve.
