This letter was different. Not different in a bad way but in a way that seemed refreshing to Michael. This girl was unique and after reading her letter and all the sweet things she had to say about him he wanted to return the favor. He didn’t even know who this girl was but he wanted to and he wanted her to feel how he did reading her letter.

“Hey Mike you almost ready? We have about 10 minutes.” Cal shouted from the other room.

When Michael didn’t respond Calum stuck his head around the corner and looked to Michael grinning at the piece of paper in his hand.

“What is that and why are you grinning like a fool?”

Michael looked up at him instantly annoyed, “It’s a piece of paper you idiot.”

Calum still with his pants around his ankles began to hop and pull his pants up as he made his way to where his friend was sitting.

“Well no really… I would have never guessed. Oh is it fanmail?”

Michael started to play with a piece of the letter that was ripped and smiled at the mystery girl’s handwriting. “Yeah, I like it. It’s actually quite surprising really.”

Astonished by Michael’s reaction to this simple piece of paper, Calum buttoned his pants that he finally seemed to get on and sat on the opposite side of the couch.

"What do you mean it’s surprising? Isn’t it the usual stuff our fans send?”

Michael finally looked up from the letter and gave a sincere smile to Calum, one that Calum hasn’t seen in a few months, and one that he really missed seeing.

“No, it’s different. I’m surprised by how much this girl cares for me.”

Calum sighs and pats Michael on the shoulder, “You do know most of these girls only like us because we’re in a band and famous. They care for us to a certain point but if this all ended tomorrow most of them wouldn’t still be here telling you how much they care.”

With this response Michael jumped up and started to fold up the letter, “You don’t understand you would have to read the letter.”

Starting for the stage, Michael stopped a few feet away before turning to look at Calum still sitting on the couch, “I honestly think she’s different and I want to tell her just how amazing she is. I don’t deserve the compliments she gives me but I want her to feel how I did when I read it. I know that’s cheesy make fun of me all you want but that’s how I feel."

With that Michael folded the letter one more time before placing it in his back pocket leaving Calum confused by Michael’s actions once again. Michael wasn’t confused though his thoughts were clear as ever and he knew he wanted to respond to this girl. That final thought leaving his mind the cheers of the crowd became his main focus as he started to play the intro to 18.
