Jay's P.O.V
"No. Maia. Please-pl-please." Fallon said in her sleep.
She keeps rolling around and mumbling. I think she's having a nightmare. I should wake her up.
"Fallon! Fallon! Wake up!" I shouted as I shook her awake.
She gasped and flung herself forward. She felt all around her face. Then looked over to me. She screamed and jumped out of the bed. She ran to the bathroom and locked herself in. Is she afraid of me? I just want to protect her.
I got up and stood outside the bathroom door. I can hear the faucet running. It stopped for a second. Then the faucet started running again. She came out and broke down on the floor. I can't tell if she's crying.
"What happened? Are you alright?" I asked. I hope she's not crying, I'm not good at comforting crying people.
"Maia." She whispered. "It's my fault. It's all my fault."
I pulled her into a hug and she stiffened. I know about her sister. She must've had a nightmare about when her sister died, or something. My poor little mate. I don't want her to be sad, ever.
"What's your name?" She sniffled over my shoulder.
"Jay." I whispered.
She sniffed the air, and then my neck. Then she pushed me off. She jumped to her feet, and into a fighting stance. WHAT THE FUCK DID I DO?!?!
"Don't touch me!" She spat. "I know what you did!"
"How did you remember?" Dr. Adams said that there was a ten percent chance that she would remember. Liar.
"It started coming back to me when Liam brought me here. And I finally remembered where I'd smelled you before." If looks could kill I'd be dead right now. "Mutt!" She spat.
"I'm so sorry." I almost cried. The memories of me killing her are so painful. I just want to protect her. I never wanted to hurt her. From the moment I met her I just wanted to hold her, even though I didn't know she was my mate.
"Why?" She asked. "Why did you do it?" It's almost like she is feeling the same pain I am.
"My father. And I was to be the new Alpha. If I didn't kill you I would've lost the respect of the pack, I would be seen as weak." God I'm so stupid. I shouldn't care about looking weak.
"Well, I guess it's a good thing that I have nine lives then." She spat, giving a sarcastic smile, "I should leave, my parents are probably wondering where I am."
"No, you can't leave."
"Why not? You're not gonna kill me again are you?" She said. Venom dripping from her voice. And no amusement whatsoever in her eyes.
"I need you. I-I can't live without you." I said to her. I really can't live without her. I'd die without her.
"What are you talking about?" She said sounding frightened.
"You mean, You don't feel it?"
"Feel what?" She whispered. God! My emotions aren't that intimidating, are they? Well, I have a right to say these things to her. She's my mate.
"The mate pull." I said sadly. What if she doesn't feel it? What if she never feels it?
"M-mate, pull? We're mates?" Why did she look so sad when she said that.
"Yeah, we are. You're mine and I'm yours." I said hopefully.
"No. No. No! This cannot be happening." She began pacing back and forth, while running her fingers through her hair. God, that hair is so beautiful, the way it frames her face perfectly.
"What's wrong?" She's starting to make me worry that she'll leave.
"No! I'm not ready! I-I can't!" She came up to me and looked me strait in the eyes. "I-I can't be tied up like this. And just be treated like some possession!"
"I'm not treating you like a possession! I'm treating you like any man would treat their mate." I said passionately.
"That's the thing! I don't know if I want a mate!" She shouted. This can't be happening. She doesn't want me.
"Well ya' better get used to it, 'cause it looks like you're stuck with me."
"I'll never get used to it!"
"Why can't you just accept this?!"
"I don't, want to." She said sadly.
"Please try." I asked, begging with my eyes.
We both sat, silently, for what felt like an eternity. We were both consumed by our thoughts.
"Okay, whatever. You win. I'm too tired to fight about something as stupid as this." She said, taking a long pause to catch her breath from all the yelling. "Because we both know what will happen to us if I reject you."
"What?"
"We'll slowly die inside, until we go so insane that we kill ourselves." She said so seriously that it scared me. Does that really happen when you get rejected? "I know what you're thinking," she said giggling, "and no, that doesn't actually happen when you get rejected."
"Well, that's probably what would happen to me." I said. She half smiled, and we stood there in awkward silence, until I broke it. "I'll go across the hall, to the guest room to sleep."
"No. Please. Stay here, just in case I have another nightmare." She pleaded. Of course I can't resist those gorgeous eyes of hers.
"Okay." I said smiling. I can't believe that she actually wants me to stay with her. I would say it's too good to be true since she was ready to kill me five minutes ago; but right now I don't care.
