The sun is a flaming ball of gas. As far as we know.

Fire rips through the apartment building across from mine as we rush through the window. We look at each other in despair, selfishly feeling for the moment we had, and lost. As the fire crackles innocently, but violently at the same time, the screams start. Oh, the mind-tearing, gut wrenching screams.

We rush out the door, and I call the Night Vale fire department. We slam out the door and stare, along with everyone else around.

We hear more screams.

Carlos gasps and points at an upper widow. We see someone waving out a window.

Carlos quickly kisses me and runs in.

I scream and try to pull him back.
I can't. I see him disappear into the smoke. I try to run in after him, but someone grabs me. I viciously spin around, and see one of the angels. Erika. I try and get free to find him, to save him.
I can't

I give up. I slowly fall to the ground as tears swim in my eyes.

"Carlos" I mutter weakly. "Erica... you have to save him... he's gonna get hurt,"

Erica nods and walks inside. I see people walking and running out of the burning building, carrying some who have been injured. I don't see Carlos. I get up painfully and walk over to one of the survivors.

"Carlos?" I quietly ask. It's Jackie Firraro, the owner of the pawn shop in town. She slowly shakes her head.

"He went back inside to get more people as soon as we got close, afterwards a log fell in front of the exit. It might be impossible to get out at this point, plus the smoke to think about."

I have to sit down again as more tears fill my eyes. I let them fall. Jackie sits down next to me without saying anything. She waves away some of the night vale fire department.

"There's more people in there," She orders. "Go get them"

They nod and tell more officers, and they charge inside. Erica still hasn't reappeared.

I quietly sob.

Suddenly, as if summoned by my tears, Erika appears. They are holding...

"Carlos!" I scream

Erika nods solemnly.
"Get him somewhere well-ventilated. He's breathed in a lot of smoke."

Even this unhappy news brings me joy. Carlos is alive!! Carlos with his perfect, Beautiful hair. Perfect, beautiful Carlos. Agh! I love him.

I'm in love with Carlos the Scientist. I want to spend every day  of my life with Carlos the scientist.
Erika puts him down and I take him in my arms. I cry quietly into his hair.

As I hug him to me, I feel him breath. It's quiet, and slow. I remember what Erika said about him breathing in a lot of smoke, and the panic hits.

"I need to get him somewhere that he can get help" I whisper to myself. If Carlos was awake he'd help. He'd know where to go. A fictional lightbulb appears above my head. Wake him up!!

I softly shake him until he mutters something about 5 more minuets and flops his arm over.

"Carlos, baby, you need to wake up. You breathed in a ton of smoke saving people from a burning house."
He blearily opens his eyes.
"Cecil- what?"

I sigh. "There was a house burning." I point to the blackened shell of the house, recently put out by the fire department. He nods.

"I remember that. But i saved people?"
I bob my head. A tear traces its way to meet its fellows on the ground. "You saved a bunch of people. You're a hero, Carlos."

He shrugs. "I'm not a hero. I'm a scientist."
