We had gotten what we needed, which was the latest book by E.E. Knight and a magic book that I thought Karie would like.
We finally got home and I threw my keys on the bar, along with my purse and what was bought. I would deal with that later.
I flopped down on the couch with Fox following.
I looked up as Karie came in, rubbing her eyes. "Hey Raven." she mumbled, heading into the kitchen to get some breakfast.
I nodded to my little sister. "Good morning." I heard the refridgerator door open and laughed.
"we should have brought some breakfast back." Fox said quietly.
I felt guilty about not taking Karie. I guess I could take her with us when we go to eat tonight.
Fox switched the television to the news and listened to the weather report.
"a high of 78 and low of 64"
I rolled my eyes. Typical winter weather for Lubbock Texas. I stood up and walked over to the bar to fetch my new book. remembering about Karie, I pulled out the magic book and surprised her when she was coming out of the kitchen. "Surprise!" i smiled, holding the book up to show it off.
Karie setbdown the cereal box and bowl and took the book from me. she flipped through it and frowned. "I dont like it..." she said quietly.
My face dropped when that was said. "oh... i thought you would so I got it for you...." I said quietly, trying to take the book back.
Karie held on to the book and smiled. "I love it." she set the book on the kitchen table and hugged me, A smile lighting my face
"Thank you Raven." she said, taking the book to her room and reappeared to get the milk for her Coco Puffs.
I smiled and grabbed the milk from the refridgerator and handed it to her. Karie smiled and fixed her cereal.
I walked back over to the couch and joined Fox, cuddling up to him. He put him arm around me, pulling me closer. I laid my head on his shoulder and smiled. I'm happy with him.
*******
5:46 p.m.
"come on Karie!" I shouted, pulling on my black flats. I was now wearing a black, knee-length dress wih black flats and black feathered earrings. Yeah, I'm crazy about the color black.
Karie was dressed in a light blue dress, slightly longer than mine. she wore silver flats and no jewelry.
"Are you ready yet?" I asked impatiently.
Karie laughed. "Yes Raven! Let's go!"
"finally" i muttered before pushing her out the door and shutting it behind us.
