cheryl pov -

i stared out to the cold chill of the frosted windows, my eyes becoming blurry as i got lost in my thoughts. i didn't even here the footsteps down the hallway as sister woodhouse swung open the door with a silent creak. i had zoned out completely at this point.

"it's time, girly."

my aching head turned at the sound of her sharp voice. i knew that it was time for movie night yet again, where they would lead you by the back of your dress to a dimly lit room, brazen with crosses. i walked in silently, looking towards the other poor children who were about the same age as me, with their dull faces staring silently into the distance. i wobbled over to a seat, smiling at a girl in the same row, and prepared myself for another blasting of homophobia through the projector. by this point i had worked out why i was here. my mother thought i was gay, and apparently it was completely and utterly wrong.

i stormed into the vixens practice, determined to talk to veronica and josie.

"cheryl's missing," i stated.

"what do you mean cheryl's missing?" veronica asked, breaking up the cheerleaders gathered around her.

i waited patiently for them to leave.

"do you remember how paranoid cheryl was at her slumber party? saying her mom and uncle were out to get her? well i think they did something to her."

"what kind of something?" josie replied nervously.

"her mom said they sent her off to some all girls boarding school in switzerland."

"that's easy enough to check," veronica said quickly, "there's only one. surval montreux."

i thought plainly.

"please! if cheryl was in the swiss alps, she'd be posting parka selfies every hour. her social media's been dead for days." my face became crestfallen with the feeling of loss again.

"wait, that's sure sign of foul play," veronica said.

"yeah," i replied.

"whatever you need toni. im in."

"me too," josie agreed, "even if we have to storm thistlehouse."

i smiled to myself with hope. i now has two other ladies on my side, ready to take on anything. we will find you cheryl.

i sat on the little bed, my face bleak with torture. i continued reading my book even when sister livingston entered my room. she spoke softly.

"i believe i've deduced what's caused this imbalance in you, cheryl."

i sighed with grief.

"and what would that be, sister livingston?"

"i've spoken to your mother about your brother jason—"

i placed down my book and looked up, sighing and rolling my eyes."

—and how close you were. so close, in fact, that you nana would sometimes mix you up, isn't that right?"

i stared at her.

"she would dress you in jason's clothes, and he in yours," she continued.

"nana's always been half blind, sister. cataracts? but, if anything's affected my psyche, is the fire hose if abuse directed at me by my mother and father," i could feel my eyes welling up with anger.

"you've suffered many traumas, it's true," she raised her voice, "but that does not excuse your wilful behaviour! now, you will report to the under croft immediately, where you will undergo physical therapy until you're ready to listen."

i felt a tear splash down my face and i wiped it in an instant, lifting myself off my bed and heading down the hallway.

we arrived at thistlehouse directly after school, running up the gravel path and knocking forcefully on the door.

"whatever happens," i said to veronica and josie, "we need to get inside."

the girls nodded in agreement as the door opened, revealing a rather glamorous penelope, with a not so glamorous stare of disapproval.

veronica spoke first, "hi mrs blossom. we need to have a chat. may we come inside for a few moments?"

"sorry girls, i'm afraid i was just about to have a bath. don't come back," she glared.

"i'm done playing games, mrs blossom," i piped up, "we need to come inside and talk. now."

and with that, all three of us walked into the house and sat in her living room. cheryl's nana gave me a small smile.

"now that you've barged your way in girls, ask your questions."

"you said cheryl was away at some boarding school?" i said, wanting to get straight to the point.

penelope pondered for a moment.

"honestly, i'm not in the habit of explaining myself to school girls," she began walking away.

"maybe not," josie chimed in, "but you may have heard that my mother is... dating sheriff keller. if you won't tell us the truth then maybe you'll tell him."

"alright then. the truth is that cheryl started exhibiting strange, deviant behaviour. so, i sent her abroad to a private wellness institute where they're trying to help her."

my anger grew and grew at this plain comment, making me want to get up and throw penelope to the ground. her behaviour was the only thing vile around here.
she continued.

"you don't have to believe me," she started, unfolding a piece of paper and handing it to josie with a evil smile.

she opened it momentarily, revealing an amazing drawing of her and josie.

"oh my god," josie began with a worried look on her face.

"she's drawn dozens like it."

"i don't understand," veronica questioned.

"no. but josie does, don't you? cheryl was obsessed with you. to the point where i was afraid she might hurt you, or herself, or both."

my mouth gaped.

"so, if you'd like me to tell that to your mother and her boyfriend, and show them, the town, cheryl's drawings of you, i'd be happy to! but hopefully you girls have the decency to keep this matter private."

we all stared at eachother with the same thoughts and feelings in our head, but i could feel josie growing more and more worried about the situation, to the point where she got off the sofa leaving penelope standing with her arms folded in a menacing gazed. i glared at her and ran after josie, out the door.
