Chapter Six

I stood in front of our apartment door contemplating whether I should run straight to my room or say something to my mom. My hands were already clammy from my nerves and I swiftly wipe them on my jeans to remove as much evidence of what happened today.

I imagine different scenarios in my head of the different things that could happen when I come face to face with mom.  "Get a grip Daisy" I whisper silently to myself.  I was about to turn back around but

my stomach brings me back to reality and growls loud enough for the neighbours to hear.

Since I didn't have lunch today after what happened I had no choice but to go in and eat my moms food. Maybe, with some food in my system I can come up with a suitable lie to tell her.

With no going back I barge into the apartment and hurriedly kick my converse off by the door. I can hear my mom on the phone and I'm grateful to whoever she's chatting with. I quickly make a run for my room but my mom blocks my way with her body and tilts her head to the side questionably. I let my hair cascade over my face and try to go around her to avoid her interrogation about how my day at school went.

"Oh Eliza, I'll call you back later Daisy's home from school and... Don't worry I'll call you back". She laughed and finally hung up the phone. I was praying for the ground to swallow me up because I honestly wasn't looking forward to this.

"Daisy, look at me" She spoke softly which slightly took me off guard since I was expecting her to be loud with anger. My hands were moist and my cheeks were red from embarrassment.

"Mom, i'm really tired, I just want to sleep for a while" I croaked. My voice was giving away too much and it annoyed me to the bones. I cleared my throat and tried again. "I'll just freshen up a bit and I can come back. Maybe, then I can tell you how my day went". I was lying through my teethes and giving myself some time to think before confronting her

She stayed quiet and I wish I could look up at her but I wasn't ready yet. "Fine, but make it quick. Meanwhile i'll heat up your food''. I hummed and retrieved myself quickly to my room. But before I can enter my room she speaks. "When you come out I want the truth Daisy. I want to know who bruised your face".

I only nod once and enter my room.

--------

"I can't believe it, I have my own buddy for the day!" Allison squeals as she drags me down the hallway. I don't exactly mind it but I wish she would stop catching everyone's attention as we walk down the hall. A lot of students standby watching us with curiosity and I have the urge to cover my face with my hand.

"I want you to meet my friends Daisy, I think you'll like them their really cool and into school materials if that worries you" She looked at me quixotically but I reassured her with a weak smile. In return she gave me a megawatts smiled that dazzles me.

I scan the school, thankfully with Allison by my side, I am able to see everything in a new light. We pass many lockers with students hovering over them packing the things they might need for the day. I stop walking and Allison turns to look at me.

"What is it?" she cocks her head to the side, I quickly point to the lockers and show her my bag.  Her lips forms into an "O" shape and her cheeks turn 5 shades of pink. "How stupid of me!" She exclaims as she drags me down the hallways to my locker.

-------

"Ladies and Gentleman please take your seats" I don't have time to over think my seating possibilities because Allison guides me to two empty chairs. Everyone that were in the hallways walked to their classrooms the moment the first bell rung, Allison told me that there was a five minute break between the first bell and the second. By the second bell everyone had to be inside their classes.
