Why Me?

Chapter 7

The room was a decent sized room, about the size of a classroom. There was a table in the corner of the room with food and drinks. There were chairs lined up on the wall and then the chairs in the middle of the room that contained people sitting on them. They were lined up in a circle talking to themselves. I knew all of the people there, Sarah and David and their two kids, Curtis ( man in the picture), Karen, Madani and Matt. They were all here talking among themselves like they been friends for years witch was true for most of them. Matt and Karen had worked together for a while until Karen went into the journalist business but they still kept in touch with each other. Sarah and David had been married a while so that was obvious. Curtis and Madani worked with my father on some cases and met each other. Finally Sarah looker over and saw me.

"Rea! Oh my gosh its so good to see you again. I'm so sorry about your father. I hope he comes home soon." She stood up and came over to give me a huge. Everyone else were getting out of their chairs and coming to greet Brice and I. After everyone said their hellos Curtis went and got two more chairs and pulled them into the circle. While he did that Matt and I pulled apart from the group as they went to go sit back down. Once we were a little farther away Matt pulled me into a huge hug and held tight. We stayed like that for a while before Matt pulled away. 

"Before you even ask no I have not seen him and I'm keeping an eye out for him. I'm sorry Rachel but its the best I can do. " Matt if you didn't know is also the Devil of Hell's Kitchen or Daredevil. We have a very close relationship, he's pretty much my uncle. Him and my dad have worked together a couple of times and we live close to each other. He is always keeping tabs on my dad to make sure that he is still alive. 

"It's okay. I know he's fine I saw him last night. He came to visit me after my therapy session." Matt seemed a little shocked by the news but corrected himself and told me that was amazing. Then he decided to was time for us to head back to the group. I stood there for a second unsure of what just happened. I felt like he was blowing off this amazing news, but then I just brushed it off and lead him to the group. 

The day was spent really nicely. We all sat around and talked about my dad for a bit then about our lives. By noon we were all laughing and having a good time.

"Well I have to get to court soon so I will be leaving, Ms. Paige care to join me?" Matt said he's a lawyer

"Oh yes, I have to get to work to. I have a couple stories to publish." Karen stated. They both got up and gave us all a hug then they left. We all talked for a little bit longer until Madani left for a case.  She is a detective.

"Well David, the kids and I are going out to lunch would you like to join us?" Curtis said he couldn't because he had a veterans group coming soon. Curtis is a war veteran like my dad and he provides support for those coming home.

After we said bye to Curtis we left and went to this little Italian restaurant.

"So David how does it feel to be alive again?" Brice asked. David had faked his own death to protect his family when he found out something he shouldn't have. Lucky my dad had helped out and put those people in the ground and David was allowed to be a living man again. 

"It has been nice. I get to be apart of my kids lives again and spend time with my beautiful wife." The rest of lunch was really nice. We chatted about random stuff and ate our food. Later Sarah treated for some ice cream and then we went home. 

We got home a little after four.  Theo was in the living room playing COD with one of his friends, Max I think his name is. Aiden was in his room witch is on the first floor right next to the living room, it sounded like he was working on his music. Aiden is the musician of the family. Finally Ryan was in the dining room working on what looked like homework. I walked over to mom in the kitchen and said hi.

"So how was your day. Did you enjoy your adventure?"

"Yes it was very nice thank you."

"What did you guys do?"

"Um we just kind of sat around and talked about random stuff. Then everyone started to leave so Sarah to us out to lunch."

"That sounds nice." I just simply humed a yes and nodded my head. The rest of the night was quiet and relaxing that is until I went to bed.
