we are all afraid of being honest because 

honesty

means full transparency

honesty

means no barriers

no walls

and it was always so easy

all it takes is a small I'm actually not okay

but instead

we smile and say

I'm fine.

here's what they don't tell you about honesty

how you are different to people's eyes now

how all of a sudden you are treated extra delicate

extra cautious

as though you are a fragment of glass 

that can 

shatter 

any time

here is what being honest means

it means accepting the fact that people are going to be extra careful 

with you

it means knowing 

that people wonder who you really are

but tell me this

why is it that 

on my darkest days

I was still able to grasp onto the 

smallest

sliver 

of myself in my scarred palms
