// CaptainSparklez POV //
The humid air awoke me. Golden light streamed through the branches, and my ears met with quiet birdsong. It was dawn. I'd let Taylor use the larger blanket, and I'd slept with the smaller one. As I unwrapped myself now, I noticed Taylor fast asleep nearby. Making sure not to wake him, I lent outside and hopped down onto the branch that gave me an aerial view of the arena. I had to clutch the branch above so as not to loose my balance. The relaxed silence was broken by a cannon fire in the distance. My grip on the branch above flinched, and I felt my stance on the branch below wobble.
It all happened faster than lightning. I felt air brushing past me, whipping through my hair and clothes. The branch I'd been standing on became smaller and smaller as I fell. Then I heard a scream from above me, and Taylor's face appeared from behind the branches.
"JORDAN!"
That's when I hit the pond like concrete. I was swallowed whole by rushing green-blue liquid. I gasped for air only to be met with water. The light above was shrinking fast. I tried to swim toward it, but my legs were caught in the reeds below me. Thinking swiftly, I pulled my sword from my belt and swung it across my shoes to cut myself free. I felt the grip loosen, and I pushed upwards. My face broke the pond, and I took mouthfuls of air.
Pulling myself onto dry ground, I noticed panicked footsteps running toward me. I jumped to my feet, painfully aware of my soaked hair and clothing. That's when someone ran from the trees, gaze wide and breathing sharp. I still held my sword in my hand, and when he caught sight of me, he skidded to a halt. He was out of breath. He must have been running for a long time. That's when I heard more footsteps running from the forest. Whoever this guy was, he must have been dangerously outnumbered. I ran over to the trunk of the tree and jammed my sword into the bark.
"Come with me!" I yelled. He was in no position to argue. I pulled myself up using my sword, and lent down, offering a hand. He took it, and I pulled him up the same way I had with Taylor. Once we reached a branch, I noticed four people standing in the clearing below around the pond, confused. They were muttering together. At the height I was at, I couldn't make out who it was. I dropped the guy onto the branch, where he clung for dear life. Then I pulled my sword from the bark, and allowed myself to drop. At this point, the air flying past made me feel like I was flying. I loved it. Just before I hit the ground, I dug my sword back into the tree, and landed safely.
I removed my sword from the tree, and turned to face the four attackers. As I spun around, a spark of recognition hit me. Adam, Ty, Jerome and Mitch. They're careers. I didn't stop to think. I jumped forward and, right as Mitch turned around, kicked him directly in the chest. I heard the painful crack of ribs breaking, but didn't dare stop to consider it. As he collapsed back onto the ground, I faced Jerome. I could see Adam climbing a tree in the background, and mentally noted it. Jerome flung an axe at my face, and I lifted my sword to block it. I felt his power and strength being pushed into me, and I found myself flat against the ground. One slip up, and the axe could end up in my stomach.
I carefully aimed, then rolled sideways so that his axe lodged into the ground. Then I pushed my blade into his back. Before I could perform a kill, a diamond pickaxe was thrown in my direction. I dropped to a crouch, and felt it skim over my head. Ty jumped over Jerome who was still trying to remove his axe from it's spot in the ground. He flung a risky punch at my face, and I only just slipped out of the way. He dislodged his pickaxe, and swung it at me. I attempted to reflect it with my sword, but its round edge curved right off and hit me right in the arm. For a moment, darkness coated my vision, and an intense pain shot through my arm. A pained gasp escaped my lips, and Ty stole the chance to kick me to the floor. I forced myself to lift the sword and block the pickaxe swipe that aimed at my chest. When he lifted it back up to hit me again, I took my opportunity. I forced my sword directly into Ty's stomach. For a moment, his face contorted, then he fell back onto the ground. There was a whisper of leaves above my head, and I jumped to the left. Adam dropped down, his plan to land on my back ruined. His knife pierced the grass, and he swore under his breath before straightening to face me. He was a lot taller and generally stronger than me, so all I could do was slip under him. Met with his back, I shoved my sword into it. It stopped part way when it met his spine, but he collapsed down with a hufff all the same. I didn't dare wait any longer. I used my sword to make my way back up the tree. I heard no cannon fire, so they must all still be alive. For now, I thought, gritting my teeth.
