If you stayed...

I warned you.

The sound of footsteps slapping on the pavement couldn't be heard over the pouring rain and thunder. It was half past midnight, and nobody was around to see a hooded figure run across the streets as the rain pours down harder than ever before.

No one saw how the figure kept breathing heavily as the rain water streamed down their bruised face, mixing with the blood as they ran.

And no one saw how they fell to the floor nor heard the scream they made over the loud crack of thunder.

The figure lied there, shaking while trying to look at their surroundings; their vision went from having black spots to being burry, but they felt like it was familiar territory, better than where they were at.

But they didn't care. Not anymore.

They gave up.

They were tired.

They were done.

The hooded figure finally stood up, looking slowly over to their left to see a bridge over a body of water, and saw how high it was.

The figure didn't feel how their shaky legs moved on their own until she felt her hands reach for the hood to pull it down.

A girl, with long, chocolate brown hair, fair skin, that was covered in bruises and cuts, walked forward in the middle of the road she was now on towards the middle of the bridge. No cars were around, but she was somewhat happy that no one was around to see her climb over the railing and stand there, looking down at the river with dull, brown eyes.

This is it... She thought.

Just let go...

She began to feel her grip on the rails loosen as she leaned over, feeling like her body would float if she were to finally let go.

She wanted to let go, but she didn't.

She couldn't.

Not when the image of a male, smiling brightly at her, flashed before her eyes.

A gasp left the girl's lips and she felt herself lean back, clutching onto the rail as if it were her lifeline. She breathed heavily and she shook her head, trying to get the image of the man out of her head, but it failed.

More came.

They flashed continuously until she screamed, cursing at the night sky as the rain began to pour even harder. The brunette hung her head low, shaking as her vision began to get blurry. She shook her head, causing the wet hair to slap against her bruised face.

The girl felt something hot and wet stream down her face, making the lump in her throat grow bigger with each passing moment. "Why...?" She croaked. "Why does this happen to me...?" She closed her eyes, breathing slowly as she lifted her head towards the heavens. "I just want to be free..."
