Kova's POV

I held my breath for as long as I could, perhaps too long. Gasping for air desperately, I felt a heat lingering in my fingers and toes, I instantly knew they were frozen. The burning cold that I felt when I first hit the water was now gone and replaced with complete numbness. The panic rose in my blood as I was struggling to find any bit of air. My head began to thump as every cell in my body was begging for oxygen and heat. I kept fighting it until I felt as if my head was about to explode.

Finally, I took a breath. It didn't hurt like I thought it would. It was almost peaceful. The last thing on my mind in that moment was my dad. How he was the only one who ever truly love me. Water consumed me, I began to fall deep into the darkness. Ever so slowly, I started to fade away. I thought I was completely gone, but I started to hear a voice calling my name.

"Kova, my sweet Kova, I am Sirena the Goddess of the Ocean and Sea."

"The what now?", I asked in a unnamused manner.

"Yes, I am the Goddess of the Ocean. I am here to offer you a second chance to live ", she spoke.

I opened my eyes and saw her. A girl, a siren. She was glowing, her beauty was as radiant as the sun that rose and set. Her skin like a sunflower. Where legs were supposed to be, there was a tail. At this point, I thought I was hallucinating. I was floating 20 ft deep into arctic water and there was a mermaid talking to me. Either, I was dead and this was hell or I was just crazy. She came closer to me and grabbed my hand.

"Kova, I am as real as you. I have seen many, many souls in my lifetime and you posses the most bravest heart I have ever seen. I am here to honor you with a new life. I have selected you to be with others like you.

"What do you mean, others?" I questioned. There are other girls who have been saved by a mermaid?

"I have selected girls just like you that possess their own true hearts. They will become your sisters. We all live peacefully together with the one condition to fulfill a sacrifice when it must be made to keep peace with the gods."

"What kind of sacrifice?"

"We sing. It is simple. Do you accept my offer?", she insisted.

"Yes, I accept."

She nodded confirming my acceptance letting go of my hand. I felt a tingling sensation start to rise in my body. It was the "butterflies in my stomach" feeling, but all around.

"Then, let the transformation begin."
