Ebony and Xavier stood in the gardens of Haven's palace as a Ebony ran her plan through her mind again. Slipping his hood on, Xavier looks at her.
"Your father said the orb was in Haven's vault, which is on the lowest level of the castle, underground," Ebony stated.
"How do we get down there?" Xavier questioned.
Ebony's fingers slipped down to her leather strap where her twin daggers rested, waiting to be used. Slipping it out both of them, Ebony turned to Xavier.
"Stay here Xavier," she ordered before slipping her hood off and stepping out into the moonlight.
Recalling all the images Ebony could of the drunken women she'd dealt with, she crossed her eyes slightly, tilted her head to one side, and wobbled up to the guards while slurring her speech.
One of the guards drew his sword before the other placed a warning hand on his arm.
"Who are you?!" The first guard shouted.
"It's just a girl, drunken damsel by the looks of it," the second one said, curiously looking at Ebony.
She reached them and kept her head down with her eyes on the ground. She clutched her daggers harder as the first guard spoke.
"Are you lost little miss?" He asked, a cruel smile slipping onto his wiry face.
Ebony quickly lifted her head and clubbed them both with the hilt of her daggers, knocking them out completely.
Idiots, she thought.
Shoving her daggers back in their hilts, she beckoned for Xavier to follow her. They pushed open the doors to the castle together. Xavier surveyed the empty hall.
"Why aren't there more guards? Where have the rest of them gone?"
Ebony shook her head before a paper stuck on the bottom of her boot caught her eye. Lifting her leg, she pulled the paper off and took a closer look only to find he rown face staring back at her, on a wanted poster. She scoffed. 300 Silver coins? That's how much she was worth to the queen? She held up the paper for Xavier to see.
"The rest of the guards are out looking for me."
Crumpling the paper into a ball and throwing it off to the side, she led Xavier down the dimly lit hallway. Candle's burned on either side of them as they travelled deeper into the darkness, the flames becoming fewer as they went.
With most of the Guards out looking for me, it should be easy enough to steal the Etium Orb.
Pushing open the doors that lead to the lower levels of the castle, Ebony and Xavier slowly walked down the winding staircase, both of their senses on high alert. Ebony shivered at the sight of the tanks sitting in rows next to the staircase, at every few steps, a new tank with some strange creature in it. A hybrid of a cat and some sort of lizard, a raccoon and a tiger, the creatures became stranger as they descended those steps. By the end, the last tank had only the tale of something showing, the rest of the body had been hidden.
What in the skies is she playing with down here? Ebony thought as they finally reached the door to the lowest level.
Where are all the guards? This place is supposed to be highly protected, Ebony thought.
It took all her and Xavier's combined strength to push the massive intricately carved doors open. When they finally did, they were greeted with a lone pedestal standing in the center of the room.
"Hello, Miss Blackfoot."
Ebony jumped at the sound of the all-too familiar voice. The Queen of Haven emerged from the shadows, a triumphant smile sitting on her cold features.
