Lovino's POV
"Lovi? What are you doing?" His voice lured me out of my thoughts and I snapped back to reality.
"Oh! Toni, hi!" I said. He stood across from me, holding two envelopes. His outfit was a green t-shirt and dark grey jeans.
"Hola, amigo! I heard today was your last day free from the horrible time waster known as a job." He had his usual smile on his face, which always cheered me up.
I smiled back at him. "Yeah," I replied while putting my hands on my hips. "But jobs don't waste time, they make money."
His smile went from cheerful to mischievous. "Uh, yeah. A money maker that wastes time," he teased.
I imitated his expression. "Oh yeah? If you get time for doing it, you're not really wasting money."
He bit his lip and started laughing. "What?" I asked. He answered with more laughter. After a while, I couldn't help but laugh with him.
"What are we even laughing about?" I asked while I could still breathe. "I'll... tell you... after..." he answered in between laughs.
"Okay." After about five minutes, we finally calmed down. We had fallen on the floor at some point during our laughing fit, and were now lying in the middle of the hallway.
"Okay, what was that all about?" I asked. Toni smiled. "You said since you get time for doing the job, you're not really wasting money."
I ran his sentence through my head a couple times, then understood. "Oh!" I exclaimed as I started chuckling.
After about half an hour of conversation, Toni gasped.
"What's wrong?" I asked, trying to mask my worry. "I almost forgot!" He chirped while pulling two envelopes out of his pocket.
"I got us tickets to Lagoon!!" He cheered. "Um... isn't that in the USA?" I asked.
He nodded. "Of course it is. I arranged planes and everything! Our flight leaves at 11:00, so we have to hurry."
I opened my mouth to speak but no sound came out. We were going to America? Just for a water park?!
"I have my swimming stuff ready. Need any help with yours?" Toni asked.
"N-No," I stammered. "It's alright. Thanks for the surprise." I tried to communicate my gratitude through my expression, since I had never been able to express myself with words. I always seemed to ruin my intent.
I stared into his beautiful emerald green eyes for about a minute, taking in his golden tan from being in the tomato fields all day. After that, he smiled and ruffled my hair.
"Lovi, are you trying to tell me something? Just say it," he said tenderly.
Since we had become friends, I had had to use my vocabulary less and less. Toni usually understood that I didn't want to speak, but occasionally he made me talk.
I felt my face get hot from his tone, and I looked down to avoid him seeing my blush. He put his hand under my chin and tilted my face up to meet his eyes, which only intensified the blush I was trying so hard to hide.
"Lovi," he whispered gently. "Tell me?" My face got even hotter, yet Toni didn't seem to notice.
I suddenly became aware of how little space was between us. His warm, supportive eyes coaxed me closer. I could feel his breath tickling my nose and suddenly I couldn't breathe myself.
Just by leaning forward slightly, the distance would be closed. I'd finally get to feel his lips on mine...
No, Lovino. Stop. I thought to myself. He doesn't love you, don't disappoint yourself.
But at this moment I wanted nothing more than a kiss. Just one time, at least.
"I..." I shook my head to clear my thoughts. If I did kiss him, would he at least kiss back? NO! He's just a friend, Lovi. Just a friend.
An amazing, handsome, caring friend.
"I-It's nothing," I finished and looked down. If I looked at his eyes any longer I wouldn't be able to stop myself. He pulled me into a hug, burying my face in his shoulder.
My eyes widened as I breathed in the smell of him. The scent of various herbs and soil filled my nose. He was so familiar, like home.
"Alright Lovi. I'll believe you." His chin moved on my back as he spoke. "Just please, I want you to trust me with what you're feeling, okay?"
He pulled back slightly and smiled at me. Now there was even less space between us, and he was getting harder to resist with every passing second.
I nodded quickly and stood up, pulling myself out of his embrace. "I'm gonna get my... stuff," I mumbled.
Now I had my answer. Antonio was just a friend to me, but I couldn't deny these desires anymore. This feeling I've been having...
It was love, for sure.
