"Mark, come on," Donghyuck said gently, shaking the depressed boy. After that fateful day in Jung's house, Mark had been gone. Physically, no, but mentally he was never quite there. His gaze held a sense of longing, his smiles never reaching his eyes, which were now shadowed by large eye bags. It pained Donghyuck to see Mark like this, but he understood. After Donghyuck's parents had disowned him, he had felt just as lonely and upset. Although he would rather go through the pain of losing them completely, but still being loved, then living his entire life without them. Luckily for Mark, Donghyuck refused to let him slip into the depressing thoughts that Donghyuck had. Donghyuck was going to try his best to salvage what was left of his broken heart, and over time, he'd glue it back together."We get to say goodbye today, Mark," Donghyuck sat down on his bed, threading his fingers through Mark's hair. "One last goodbye."
Mark sniffed, disturbing the peaceful air. Donghyuck felt him nod against his fingers, and gently stood, beginning to search through his closet. He didn't own any suits, but he found a dark blue button-up in the depths of his closet and threw it on. He was just getting to the middle button when he felt hands wrap around his waist.
"Thank you for being with me, Donghyuck," Mark mumbled against his neck, his cheeks still stained with tears.
"I know this is awful timing, but I wanted to ask you something." Mark spun Donghyuck around so the boy was now facing him, and began to button the rest of the shirt.
"Would you be my boyfriend, Lee Donghyuck?" Mark looked at Donghyuck with his puppy dog eyes, a red tint to the beautiful color.
"I'd love too," Donghyuck smiled, leaning up to give Mark a peck on the lips. "Get ready, puppy, we need to meet Ten."
Ten was waiting outside for the couple when Mark was finally done. Johnny was with him, a guilty look on his face. Donghyuck personally felt a bit guilty. He felt responsible for the death of Jaehyun, and he sometimes thinks he should have just died instead. But life had other plans.
The four arrived at the desolate graveyard, all wearing a solemn expression. Donghyuck held a small bunch of roses in his hands, the thorns pricking at his skin, but he didn't mind it. The roses were going towards a special cause, and no minor cut would stop that. Donghyuck spotted Taeyong first, almost gasping at how the boy looked. He thought Mark looked bad, but Taeyong was so much worse. He was white as a ghost, hauntingly dark eyebags shadowing his skin. His cheeks were hollow, his ribcage showing through his suit.
Ten ran to Taeyong, engulfing him in a big hug. Donghyuck stood by awkwardly, waiting for the hugs to be over. He was shocked when Taeyong pulled him into a giant hug, quiet sobs shaking his frail body.
"Thank you, Donghyuck. Keep Mark happy," Taeyong whispered, pulling away and giving Donghyuck a small grin. Donghyuck nodded, still in shock. He thought Taeyong would be mad at him. Hell, he had planned the operation that got his boyfriend killed, but Taeyong was just too nice for that.
Ten was comforting Taeyong, Johnny next to him, as Jaehyun was lowered into the ground. Despite not knowing Jaehyun well, Donghyuck felt a bit sad. No matter who it is, death is a sad concept. (Unless it's Donald Trump, that's an exception) Everytime Taeyong locked eyes with him, he would smile at the boy, hoping he understood that Donghyuck was there for him if he needed it.
When the casket was finally lowered and buried, Donghyuck approached the small gravestone, reading over the carefully carved letters.
Jung Jaehyun
Feb. 14, 1997 - Aug. 18, 2018
"I love you, too"Donghyuck didn't understand the significance of the last words, but he figured Taeyong did. He was the one who designed the grave, after all. According to Mark, Jaehyun had no other immediate family, so Taeyong was left with everything.
Donghyuck sighed sadly. He wished he could go back in time and prevent everything from happening, maybe even prevent himself from meeting Mark. But the past can not be helped.
Donghyuck placed the roses down.
"I'm sorry, Jaehyun," he whispered. He felt a small pat on his back and saw Mark behind him. The boy looked the happiest he had in days, whether it be fake or not, Donghyuck was happy to see his smile."C'mon, it's Taeyong's turn." Donghyuck nodded, brushing off his jeans, and followed the boys back to Ten's car. They hung around for a while, hoping to say bye to Taeyong, but he was taking his time. Ten eventually got tired of waiting and decided to just shoot Taeyong a text. Everyone piled into the car, Donghyuck in the back seat. As Ten changed the gears and turned up the music, Donghyuck looked back, unintentionally locking eyes with Taeyong, who was finally leaving.
But Donghyuck couldn't help but notice how different he looked. Any sorrow that was on his face was now replaced with relief. He almost looked happy that he was done with Jaehyun. Donghyuck knew that wasn't what Taeyong would be feeling in this situation. Something was wrong, something was altered about Taeyong's facial expressions. He almost looked torn between two different emotions.
It was scary to see. Donghyuck looked away, but the face remained in his mind, haunting him the entire ride home.
Something was wrong with Taeyong.
