In this AU, the Ndrv3 cast all volunteered through cassettes to Danganronpa, which was a suicide service. It was a service that was supposed to help you get killed, in exchange for the permission to allow sadists to access the live feed of the killing game as entertainment in the deep web. You'd enter a simulation that worked similar to Miu's, but with dangerous weapons.
Since the rules of the game are that there are supposed to be only two people left in the end, one of those people is one of the service workers avatar, in this case Tsumugi, monitoring others to ensure everybody gets killed in a short amount of days. The second will be convinced that it's a simulation and that now that the game is over, the simulation will end. What they won't know is that they'll be killed in the process.
When the Future Foundation managed to track down the feed, they rescued the remaining survivors, the memory of the killing game still within them. Members of The Future Foundation also managed to restore the data of the killers and victims, but they needed to under go a series of therapy sessions as well as stay in the hospital for some time, just to check if no damage was done.
Tsumugi, who was brainwashed into working at the service had to attend visits with special doctors in order to regain control of her mind and focus on her friends as a support mechanism.
While the trauma from the murders remained, they're a lot happier than prior to the game and remain friends.
