Chapter 4

" DarkFur don't you think we should send our apprentices hunting instead of a border patrol? I mean GraniteStar already sent two patrols to remark our borders today. Plus I want to see if SnowPaw here can find me some marigold, it does grow better in our territory." "BlueLeaf really? Do you think this is my first apprentice, I know what's good for their training." SnowPaw stepped forward. " DarkFur the prey pile needs restocked, there's not much left. We can do what you want tomorrow. Think of our clan." DarkFur looked at SnowPaw, shock and pride filled his eyes. " Your right SnowPaw. Sorry BlueLeaf let's go hunting. ArrowPaw you and SnowPaw go towards the two leg hole. Bring back plenty of prey. I'll head towards our Side of the Rock Falls. BlueLeaf are you gonna hunt or stay here?" " Stay here if you don't mind, BigBelly has a cough and needs tending to." " Alright, lets get going." DarkFur, SnowPaw, and ArrowPaw all left camp and went their way. SnowPaw lead the way.

SnowPaw looked down the slope. Down in the valley beneath her and ArrowPaw was filled with the cover of tree to the long grass to hide in. " ArrowPaw look how beautiful that is, did you see these kind of trees back in RainClan?" " No SnowPaw, back home we had mostly open fields of grass and a scarce amount of trees for cover. I don't really miss it there, here we have a lot of cover to hunt and hide from our prey." SnowPaw saw a glimmer of pride in ArrowPaws red and purple eyes. " Come on furball lets go and hunt before dark or DarkFur will be angry." SnowPaw bounded down the slope, she felt the wind flow between her fur as she ran. She felt as light as air, SnowPaw always loved the feeling. SnowPaw came to a stop next to a tall oak tree, she looked around and saw that many more of these tall trees were around her. SnowPaw quickly remembered how DarkFur and BlueLeaf had taken her here to train a few days ago to look for herbs and learn how to pounce on prey, even though she already knew how. A few moments later the black and tan apprentice caught up to her. " God SnowPaw you shouldn't run that fast, what if you'd run into a fox, or a badger, or worse fell off one of the cliffs and died. What in the world would I tell DarkFur, BlueLeaf, or your mother, oh god your mother would kill me if something happened to you." SnowPaw saw the concern in his eyes. "ArrowPaw chill, I'm fine, I was watching where I was going. Plus a fox couldn't catch me even if it tried. I'm way too fast, plus with my height I can fit under any rock. Here i'll show you." SnowPaw looked around, she saw a tiny break in the smooth rock that sat next to her. SnowPaw squeezed through the tiny gap, as if it was a her den. Inside was pretty small, but it could totally fit both her and ArrowPaw. She stuck her head out of the gap. "See? I'm small enough!" ArrowPaw looked around, then looked back at SnowPaw, as if he was worried that he was gonna get caught. " Get out of there. SnowPaw were supposed to be hunting, not poking around in rocks." SnowPaw clawed her way free from the stone around her, luckily she wasn't stuck. " Just trying to have fun, were not expected back to camp for awhile. But if you insist on hunting now then let's go." SnowPaw dashed her way towards the scent of prey. She felt ArrowPaw by her side, his black and tan pelt brushing against hers. Quickly SnowPaw picked up the scent of a rabbit near by. SnowPaw followed the scent till she seen the rabbit, munching quietly on a clump of ferns under a big oak tree. SnowPaw crouched and slowly made her way towards the rabbit, Finally when she was in reach of pouncing on it, she sprang, she killed it in one swift bite to the neck. "Good catch Snowy! We should probably find some more, that thing looks fatter than BigBelly." ArrowPaw let a marrow of laughter escape him. " Hey this thing is way smaller than BigBelly, but don't let him catch you saying he's fat he'll claw your ears off. Trust me, RedPaw made that mistake." SnowPaw buried the rabbit to come collect it later. Then the two set off again, in search of more prey. Eventually the two young cats had caught three rabbits and two squirrels. Now the two cats set off back to camp carrying their catch. They had made it back to camp before dark, happy that the gorse wall surrounded them. They immediately went towards the prey pile to unload their catch. DarkFur, his brown eyes shining with pride, had approached the two apprentices. " Good Job both of you, your coming along well, will you take that big rabbit to the elders? I'm sure they would love the company." SnowPaw and ArrowPaw made their way to the small cave of the elders den and pushed their way through the vine entrance. When they had gotten inside BigBelly a light tan tom, BarkTail a white and tan she cat , and WindWisker a silver she cat, were laying in their nests asleep. WindWisker put her head up. " Hello young ones, wake up you two!" WindWisker prodded her den mates. " What now you old bat can't you see were sleeping?" Moewed BigBelly. " We have guests BigBelly. SnowPaw and ArrowPaw have brought us food." "Well why didn't you say that in the first place. Give me that thing. " BarkTail got up and took the rabbit from SnowPaw. "It's not all for you BigBelly, I understand you could eat all this by yourself, but WindWisker and I need to eat too, we will eat first and you can have our scraps. Honestly your as fat as a kittypet, you need to lose that weight. If don't, your gonna eat yourself to death, I told you the same thing when you were a warrior." BarkTail spat at BigBelly. " Your no longer the medicine cat BarkTail, you can't order me around anymore. BlueLeaf is and she's perfectly fine with my weight for being an elder. All I do is lay around doing nothing, so lay off BarkTail unless you want your ears clawed off."  BarkTail turned towards the two apprentices and nodded her head in thanks. " You two should go, we wouldnt want to bother you, plus BigBelly is obviously angery, have a good day you two." Meowed WindWisker. SnowPaw and ArrowPaw turned around and left. Outside of the den, the sun had started to go down casting a reddish glow on the camp. The two cats set off for the apprentice den to finnally get some sleep from their long day. The den was in the back of the cave, and was the smallest den. Once inside they saw that GorsePaw PebblePaw, RockyPaw, and LillyPaw werent back yet, ShadowPaw, RedPaw, AshPaw, and AngelPaw we're already asleep. LightingPaw was here too, his nest was next to AngelPaws. SnowPaw settled in a nest in the back of the cave. ArrowPaw dragged a pile of moss to lay next to SnowPaw. Finally the two apprentices fell asleep.
