"DAMMIT WINNY!" Was all I heard before a blunt force struck my face, and it all went black.

Waking up in a hospital isn't the best feeling in the world. It took a while for my eyes to adjust from the deepest shade of black to the fluorescent lighting in the hospital.

The doctor stood in the doorway and knocked. I nodded for him to come in.

"Ms. Brooks," he said clearing his throat.

"Please, call me Winny," I said hoarsely.

"Well, Winny, you have a fractured wrist and a broken cheek bone, but you should heal well," he said offering me a kind smile.

"And what about," I couldn't finish the sentence without getting choked up. The doctor sat on the edge of the bed, and set his arm I my shoulder.

"He's in jail, for a long time. So a local church came together and put together a fund to send you to Australia with your aunt," he gave me more jubilant smile.

I forced a smile back and sighed, "Thank you very much," and I turned my head.

When the doctor reached the door he turned around.

"One last thing and I'll leave you alone. You leave at six o'clock tomorrow morning, so you should really get some rest," with my head still turned away from him, I nodded, tears streaming down my cheeks.

"Thank you," I squeaked. I couldn't be anymore thankful. The last thing I wanted was to stay in this tiny town, with my head full of worries and fears. Maybe if I started out somewhere new, I would have the chance to be a bigger, better person.

I laid in the little hospital bed, thinking about why Australia might be like. The sun always shining, warming and tanning my pale skin, my hair bleaching a lighter blonde.

Just the thought of it made me excited to get the hell out of this city. So with the excitement in my belly, I went to the hospital cafe and ordered a bowl of oatmeal.

The bell rang to notify me that my order was ready. I walked up to the counter, grabbed my oatmeal and headed to my room.

After my bowl was clean, my eyes started to flutter shut, and the bright sun and sands of Australia danced through my dreams.

I think for the first time in forever, I fell asleep with a smile on my face.

That next morning, I sat on the edge of the bed waiting g for my escort to show up.

Waking up this morning was a little soar, but I was able to manage sliding on my ripped skinny jeans and Blink-182 tank-top. I decided that the make-up and hair was going to have to wait. So I tied my hair into a loose ponytail.

When the driver walked through the door, I jumped up eager to get out of here. I grabbed my suitcase that Social Services packed from my house, but the driver stopped me.

"Here let me get that," he said eyeing my wrist.

"No no that's okay," I smiled at him.

"Please," he begged. I looked at him, then at my bag and nodded.

"Thank you," I smiled again. I really didn't like people feeling bad for me, or wanting to help me out of sympathy, but I guess this is what I'll endure just to get to Australia faster.

The drive was awkwardly silent, like the driver had something to say, he just wasn't able to say it. Finally he spoke.

"You'll be safe in Australia," he looked into the rear view mirror.

"I have a feeling it will," I smiled lightly back.

"Now, when you take off on the plane, there will be a little turbulence, and it's a little scary, but you'll be fine," he stopped outside of the Arizona Airport.

"Thank you, sir," I said handing him a twenty.

"Hey this is too much," he yelled out the door.

"Keep it!" I yelled back waving at him, jogging to the door. Walking through the door, I thought I heard a faint thank you. I smiled heading to my flight.

After I successfully got through security and I was standing at the terminal, my tummy started getting butterfly's.

What if we crashed. That was my last thought, before they made the signal to start boarding.
