"I can't even begin to understand what that's like." he whispered into her hair. "You didn't deserve to go through that. I'm so sorry." Then Scarrlet looked up at him. "One rule. Don't say you're sorry. I don't want you to be sorry for me, alright?" She said while wiping her face. "Oh, alright." He said as he began playing with his hair. She got up and got a glass of lemonade from the fridge. "You want some?" She asked holding up her drink. "No, thanks. I'm good." He said as she shrugged.
"Well, anyway. To continue with the story." She said as she took a sip of her drink. "Before any of that had happened I had always struggled with depression and cutting, since I was around ten." She said, swallowing some aspirin. Mason was about to say something when Scarrlet cut him off. "Don't ask. That's another story I don't feel like bringing up." She said, looking sorry. "Alright, that's cool. Just know you can always talk to me Scarrlet. I'm a great listener." He said as she nodded with a smile.
"Thanks, It's nice to know I have someone to talk to other than Ren. He's not really good at taking things seriously. Sometimes it's like talking to a fish." She said rolling her eyes. Mason chuckled as he unwrapped another piece of gum and put it in his mouth. Scarrlet got out a classic black ipod from her pocket and walked over to the ipod dock by the tv. She put on her ipod and the voice of Joe Jonas came blasting out of the speaker.
"Seriously? The Jonas Brothers?" He said laughing. "Not the type of music I thought you would listen to." He said raising his eyebrows. "What? They're not that bad. "I'm hot. You're cold, you go around like you know." She fake sang. "I like them." She said while jumping around and jokingly singing along. "Mhm. They're terrible." Mason said chuckling. "Oh, the chorus!" He shouted excitedly.
"I'm slipping into the lava and I'm trying to keep from going under. Baby, you turn the temperature hotter 'cause I'm burnin' up, burnin' up for you baby." He sang as they started dancing around together. "You guys look like idiots." Ren said as he walked through the door. "Oh, come on Ren. You know you like them." Scarrlet teased.
Ren walked over to the ipod and put on Mayday Parade. "That is much better." Ren said as he walked over to the kitchen. "So, who's your new boyfriend?" Ren teased. "We're not dating." Scarrlet and Mason spoke at the same time. Ren raised his eyebrows at them. "Ren this is Mason. Mason, Ren." She introduced them. "Hey, dude." Mason said and gave a peace sign with his right hand. "What's up with the peace sign, man? That just made you look really gay." Ren said as he lit a cigarette.
"Shut up Ren. But, yeah. That was kind of gay." She said and playfully punched Mason in the arm. "Yeah, yeah." Mason said as he rolled his eyes. Ren walked over to the couch and sat down on the floor in front of it. "Aren't you guys supposed to be in school?" Ren said and blew out some smoke. "Yeah, but we ran into each other as we were both ditching." Mason said and sat down on the floor across from him. "You guys do realize there's a couch right behind you?" She said looking at them like they were idiots and sitting down on the couch, they both just shrugged in response.
"So, how old are you Mason?" Ren asked leaning back on his elbows and putting out his cigarette on the tile floor. "Ren, the tile! You're cleaning that." Scarrlet said annoyed. "I'm 16, but I'm turning 17 next month." Mason said wiping at the place where Ren put out his cigarette with the sleeve of his jacket. "Ah, so you're a November man." Ren said nodding his head and getting up walking over to his room. He came back with a guitar in his hands and began to tune the acoustic guitar. "Oh, cool. You play guitar." Mason said happily suprised. "He's just showing off since you're here." Scarrlet said laughing and going over to turn off the music still playing from the ipod. Ren began to strum the melody of Roger Rabbit by Sleeping With Sirens. "Nice song choice." Mason stated with a pleased look on his face. Ren shot a look at Scarrlet and she began singing along to the melody. "Is there a right way for how this goes? You got your friends and you got your foes. They want a piece of something hot, forget your name like they forgot. Ain't that something?" As Scarrlet sang Mason looked at her with an amazed look in his eyes as she continued. "Some want to see you crash and burn and criticize your every word. I'm trying to keep from going insane. Ain't that the way of this whole damn thing? Trying to be something, more." She stopped, but Ren continued to play the song on his guitar. "Damn, that was really good." Mason said as she turned towards him.
"Haha, I guess." Scarrlet said getting up and walking back over to the kitchen. "Ren kind of forced me to learn how to sing a couple years ago because he wanted a female vocalist." She said as she stuck her tongue out at Ren, he just chuckled and continued strumming notes on his guitar. Mason laughed and got out another piece of gum and put it in his mouth along with the piece he was already chewing. "Oh, dude. That's gross. Why didn't you throw away that other piece?" Scarrlet said with a grimace, Mason shrugged. "I don't know. I'm just weird like that." Mason said with a casual tone. Ren lit up another cigarette and took a puff. "Addicted much?" Scarrlet said with a giggle looking at Ren. "Oh, hush up little girl. You don't see me saying anything about your weird strawberry Pocky addiction." Ren said just as Scarrlet was getting a box of Pocky out of a kitchen cabinet. "Shut up, Ren." She said as she threw a dish towel at him. "If it helps, I have an addiction to fruity gum." Mason said with an innocent look on his face. Ren and Scarrlet both starting laughing at the look on his face. "What's so funny?" Mason said with that innocent look still on his face. "Your face. You just look so cute and innocent." Ren said in between breaths of laughter. "You look like a lost kitten." Scarrlet said wiping a tear from her face from laughing so hard. "Shut up, guys." Mason mumbled as they continued laughing.
