Wednesday, second day back. And it sucked. Well, at least I had swimming after and today was trials for the team, the girl team and the boy team.

Aaaand we where running late.

Lucia was out before Zuzanna and I could blink and I could do nothing but zip out the car after her. We thundered down the steps, Lucia swearing when she scanned her membership card the wrong way. Then we had to race down some more steps, I was totally out of breath by the time I crashed open the doors to the Girls' Changing Room.

"Hi Lucia! Hi Lauren!"

"How was your summer?"

"Holy cow, Lucia, you've grown!"

Everyone hung around Lucia as I squeezed out of the tight ring of girls from our club, and dashed into a cubical to change. My swimsuit was black, just plain black, as was my swimming cap I stretched over my hair. My goggles where silver, borrowed from Zuzanna since I lost my own pair and had a great yelling at by Mum when she came to visit on a Saturday and Sunday in late July this year.

I came out of my cubical, locking my stuff away in one of the lockers and tapped on Lucia's usual door, "Lucia, you ready?"

"Yep."

She opened the door, rushing out so quickly that she almost sent me sprawling, "Hey!"

Lucia's swimsuit was black but with bright turquoise spaghetti straps criss-crossing over back, her cap was also bright turquoise and her goggles where black.

"C'mon, the girls told me that trials are about to start." She grabbed my elbow and recklessly threw her stuff into a locker without bothering to lock it,

We padded onto the poolside and sat down on the benches until our names where called, our swimming instructor was there with the boys' instructor, both of their heads bent looking down the lists of names from our club. Lucia groaned as she realised we had to wait a very long time, our names where probably last on the register.

"Ok, so, we're going to start with the boys' try-outs first," The boys' instructor yelled, "Guys, line up behind this post!"

Lucia drew up her knees and puffed out a breath, "Ugh, we rushed here for trials, but we have to go last? Damn it."

The girls behind us began groaning as well,

"Oh my god, now it's gonna take forever!"

"Lucia, I feel so bad for you!"

"I know right! You rushed here..!"

None of the comments or attempts of conversation where pointed to me, everyone knew how good Lucia was at swimming and everyone believed that Lucia would be team captain this year. If Lucia was made Captain, she'd have a say in who would be able to compete, who would be moved from A team to B team or C team or who was reserve, on both teams, Girl and Boy.

Typically, an older swimmer would be Captain, so the highest chances where that Lucia was made Girl's Captain. The Girl's Captain didn't have much say as the Captain, but they just really carry out orders and sort things out through out the girl teams for the Captain, but they did have the privilege to advise the Captain in choices but nothing more. She never had the final say.

Anyhow, the girls hated me for some reason, probably because they think that Lucia would favour me if she was made Girl's Captain, or pick me for the A team even when I wasn't good enough if she was Captain.

Lucia wacked my arm, "Hey, I swear that's Hiroshi Sato?"

I looked up and peered at the line of boys, who where still being shouted at by their instructor, at the head of the line was a guy, tucking his black hair into a royal blue swimming cap and pulling his goggles over his eyes. And yes, he was definitely Hiroshi.
