The smell of fire drifted across his nose slowly, the scent of his destroyed notebook ingrained in his memory as he watched helplessly as it flew out the window. He cried out in anguish, dashing to the window only to watch the notebook fall into the small koi pond behind the school. Slowly, voices began to register in his ears as his tunnel vision collapsed.
"See what I mean boys? Deku here can't even save a little notebook about his precious heroes. If he can't do that, what makes him think he could ever make it as a hero. Hey Deku!" Suddenly, hands grabbed the back of his uniform and spun him around to force his green eyes to lock with those crimson red orbs. "Do yourself a little favor, take a swan dive off the roof and pray you get a Quirk in the next life!"
Katsuki Bakugo, his friend and bully all in one blonde haired bag of ego. All their lives, he just wanted to be Katsuki's friend but all he ever got in return was abuse and hate for simply being weaker. As Katsuki walked out of the classroom with his lackeys, a thought slowly crossed his mind.
'If he is destined to be a great hero, are Heroes really all that great?'
That single thought shoke the green haired boy's entire world, forcing a gasp of air to escape his mouth as he held his chest at the sudden tightness. He slowly settled down but the tightness refused to leave him, causing a slight worry but as he remember those parting words, his concern was fleeting. He slowly walked back out as well, making sure the bullies were gone before heading out back to grab his notebook. He managed to save the book despite residual burn makes and water damage as well as the corners nibbled off by the koi's.He sighed softly, rubbing the back of his head with his free hand as he debated just what to do with the damaged book. He shrugged causally and stored the book away, feeling a dark shadow slowly creeping over his mind. What if Bakugo was right? Was his life even worth it anymore? He had endured abuse, verbal and physical, for over 11 years from the one person everyone deemed the prodigy hero of their school. These thoughts weighed heavily on his mind as he walked home, his world blocked out as he thought over Bakugo's words.
Upon reaching his home, he just casually waved at his mom in greeting as he set his bag down and slid his shoes off. He calmly walked towards the bathroom, telling his mom that he was going to use it before dinner. He quickly shut and locked the bathroom door. The scent of lavender and soap still clinged to the air from what he could tell was a recent bath from his mother. He slowly approached the mirror and quickly swiped a streak through the fog easily. The mirror only showed him what he already knew, a young teenager with messy green hair, green orbs set in his eyes, and a frown of determination dressed along his lips. He spoke slowly, almost as if he was trying to convince himself of these words as he spoke them.
"I am Izuku Midoriya, a Quirkless boy. And, I promise to NEVER become a hero!"
