Chapter 4

A Tale of Tomorrow

What was it that kept me bounded? Why was I scared? The fear is sometimes in our heads, all of it. Sometimes they feed you bullshit. Sometimes they tell you are a loser, you suck because you are skinny, because you don't socialize, because you have a weird name, weird passions, sometimes all they need is a good old punch on their fucking faces, sometimes they need to shut up. Now it was justified, I was not delusional. I was happy to see him on fire, I was happy to watch him BURN!

I was not afraid of anything at this point, considering myself as an expendable asset of the already messed up world, like everybody else but now things were changing.

We had left the city far behind long ago, driving in the lower suburbs and with the pace of the car, it seemed like we were moving out of town. It was about to rain, the clouds made it look almost like dawn. I was covered in a red cloak. I collected myself up and sat down. The man driving the car had a serious air about him. He seemed to be a man of few words. Bald and beefed up, He had thighs coming out of his arms. But girls like her don't need bodyguards, Boyfriend?

"Where are we moving?" I asked wrapping the cloak around me.

"Where they can't find you." She replied producing a cigarette.

"Who?" I asked. My shoulder didn't hurt anymore.

"The reapers." She turned back, here black hair covered her eyes. She pushed them back with one hand holding cigarette on the other one. "You want to try?" She said proffering it.

Unleash a child to unlimited freedom and he'll always pick bad habits first.

"Yeah. Pass it on."

She wasn't beautiful, she wasn't cute. She was your average chewing munching bitch. I pulled up some smoke, my face turned red. Took me a while to comprehend the technique. A couple of more pulls and I was smoking it like a pro. She was older than me, 25 or may be 27.

"How old are you?" I asked passing her the cigarette.

She looked at me, making a face.

"You should have started with a 'Hi', then a brief introduction followed by a cup of coffee and some dating fixes." She frowned.

"I'm 19 and..."

"You love eating Chinese, reading and reading a lot. Chemistry junkie. Graduating in Machine design. Recently lost a molar to a stupid scuffle." She pulled me close to her face. "Want to know the size of your tool li'l boy." She whispered in my ear.

We had been so close for a brief time though, but she knew everything about and yet was a total stranger.

"Why do they want me?" I asked.

"Precisely you are the only way to stop him." She said with a distressed tone.

"Who?"

"We're not allowed to take his name black, their names should never be called out." She uttered in violent speed.

"This shit is pretty confusing." I enquired. "Who the fuck are you talking about?"

"Demons." She exclaimed.

I was muffled. It was like being shot, precisely it was big bang. At one moment you are nothing and within the fraction of second, everything starts making sense, perfect sense. But then this pang hits you, this pang of fear and suspicion of failure and before you know, you are shitting bricks. "You must be kidding me!" I shrieked. "I'm an asshole."

"Yeah, you slowing time and shit is a lie, right?" She chided. Her eyes trying penetrate through my scaffold.

"Stop the car! I wanna go home" I yelled freaking out. "Stop this car you dumbfucks."
