Letta was only 8 years old when Nick Fury found her. She was all alone in a HYDRA facility, stuck in a tiny room with no windows only a roof, four walls, and the ground. Coulson was with Fury in that mission and took the scared child into his arms.
Through the past 8 years Letta has watched her adoptive father be killed by a god. Watched the city she loved be destroyed by aliens, was almost killed by an assassin with a metal arm, and was beaten up by a robot with anger issues. But with all that she was faced with the Accords and that was the hardest fight of them all.
