Copper leaves don the trees down Camila's street today. It's officially fall, meaning it's finally decided to cool down. It also means that the girls at school are suddenly obsessed with pumpkins and flannels and-
"Y/n!" A familiar voice calls, breaking me from my thoughts and causing me to turn from where I've been watching a particularly red leaf dance towards the ground. In front of me now stands a beautiful woman wrapped in a brown wool coat, a tartan scarf almost falling off from around her neck as she battles with a black dog at her side.
"Oh my god! What happened to Thunder?" I exclaim, crouching down and opening my arms to the now-much-larger dog. Laughing as he collides with me, I rub my hands up and down his sides. He leaps up to rest his heavy paws on my shoulders while my fingers run through his fur, trying to lick me on the face despite how I fight him off.
Above me I, hear a giggle and foolishly pause my defence against the hound to look up at the incredible sight of her biting her lip as she gazes down at me, hair a little dishevelled. This moment of distraction gives Thunder the perfect chance to lick my face, and he knows better than to take it for granted. Before I know it, I'm falling back on the pavement and covered in slobber.
"Oh! Dar- Y/n!" She corrects herself, catching Thunder's leash from where it had fallen when he'd rushed towards me and tugging on it in an attempt to free me. That, combined with my pushes, eventually means I'm able to crawl from beneath him and stand on my feet. After wiping the slobber from my face, I look up at Camila just in time to catch a laugh bubbling within her. It escapes before she can trap it, the sound more beautiful than the autumn birds singing above us, more genuine than any promises made, any proclamations of lo-
"What?" I chuckle, blushing at my own thoughts as Thunder lets out a frustrated whine between us.
"Nothing." She explains breathily once she's gathered herself, "You're just... don't worry about it."
"Mm, okay?" I agree, though sceptically, before watching as she heads to the front door and unlocks it.
"I'm sorry I wasn't here." She continues, "I thought I'd have time to take this one for a walk before you arrived."
"It's fine, don't worry about it." I grin, my smile growing when she turns again, this time after taking Thunder's leash off and locking him inside.
"You ready to go?" She suddenly seems nervous as her hands hide away in her pockets.
Silently, I step towards her and smooth her hair down. Glancing down, I witness a soft dusting of pink catching on her cheeks when I pause to plant a soft kiss just beneath her jaw before covering the spot with her scarf, wrapping it around her neck properly before straightening her jacket too.
"Yeah." I whisper, "You?"
She nods jerkily, gaze remaining on the floor for a moment as a smile grows on her precious lips.
"Date number one, here we come!" She exclaims quietly when she makes eye contact with me once again.
"Date number one," I repeat, adopting her same quiet and almost shy tone.
My fingers trail down the sleeves of her coat before holding her hands in mine, and I bring one up to my lips, spending time to kiss each knuckle as she watches in what looks like awe, blush deepening.
"Where are we headed?" I question, keeping her hand raised so I can return my lips to it once the inquiry escapes.
"Ah, that bit's a surprise." She teases, winking and squeezing my hands before lowering her right and pulling me down the street towards her car.
I laugh once again when she does an odd little dance along the way.
