My mind is like a tank full of water, my bones feel weak and useless, my eyelids are heavy and closed over my irises. I feel like sleeping forever and maybe I'll find Ian in heaven or wherever he may be, but I know one thing's for certain... I have to live on and find him, I can't just give up on him when it could be life or death, I need to live through this. I gotta. Someone touches my hand then holds it tightly, I squeeze and they gasp, calling for the doctor to come, "Doctor Charles!" I recognise her voice, Rachel, she's here with me and I don't trust her. "The doctor's name is Doctor Kyle, Rachel." I hear Shade speak and I could almost feel her rolling her eyes like she always does when Rachel mucks up.
My eyes slowly begin to open and flicker along the way, but then Rachel's hand pushes them down again, I then hear footsteps and someone snatches her hand away. I finally get my eyes opened and Rachel gasps along with the doctor and Shade, "Your eyes have changed different colours... well, one of them anyway." Doctor Kyle says, but then I notice his name tag, they both got his name wrong as it is actually Doctor Felix.I push myself up and notice I have gained weight, but not enough to be considered healthy, I then notice these weird long tubes reaching down my nose into my throat and into my stomach. I could feel it and I feel sore all over. Dr Felix shines a light into my right eye, "Hmm, your right eye is," he speaks softly, "now greyish blue."
My heart sinks, I loved the green, but at least the other is green right? "We best keep you here over night as there could be something causing that eye colour change." He then walks to the door before saying, "Visiting hours are up, so the girls will have to leave in about two minutes." Swinging the door open and closing it from behind him. "How long have I been here for?" I manage to get out. Shade looks down, "Only a few hours. Hex was here only two hours ago, but he then left since he didn't want to wake you, so I came and stayed while Rachel turned up unexpectedly." A scoff is sounding from a throat of one them and I realise it is coming from Rachel, "Ian- I mean Hex- contacted me and so I rushed right over."
Huh, maybe she isn't so bad after all. "Yeah right." Shade scoffs as Rachel rolls her eyes then stands from sitting on the clean white hospital bed right next to me and grabs her handbag to swing across her shoulder before turning to face me, "Goodbye, Cay, see you when you're better, 'kay?" then closes the pale door behind her as I call out, "Okay!" Shadianna walks over and kisses me on the forehead. I feel like a sick kid and she's the worried parent, it brings me happiness but also makes me want to cry on her shoulder, she walks off and gently closes the door behind her with a click. I hear her heels click along the smooth floor until she fades out from sound.
I sigh, "How did I let this happen to myself? I should've been more careful." Mumbling under my breath, I notice a book beside me with the title 'Daughter of The Burning City', a tear drops down my cheek and I wipe it off. Ian was so happy that he read it straight away and finished it in about two hours at the party. He had said it was one of the greatest books ever written. A smile creeps along my face, threatening to break away my cheeks, yet I let myself pick up the book from the little light pink table and hold it close to me. "Ian, I hope you are still alive, and I hope that we find you soon after I clean up my shitty act of grief." I manage to breathe out the words from my lungs and vocal cords vibrating through my throat. Closing my eyes, I manage to fall asleep, and dream...
Ian's slumped body against a cement wall instead of a tree in the forest. His chest ripped open, his heart and lungs right next to him, blood rushing out like a flood. I cover my mouth as it threatens to gag and spew out vomit. "IAN!!" I manage to scream and fall to my knees and hands, I give up trying not to gag, then all the vomit trapped inside me rushes out like a waterfall.
Gasping, I jolt upwards, the book is still in my arms and I place it onto the table beside me then look at my hands. No blood in sight, "it was all a dream. A nightmare." My heart running fast filled with adrenaline and I slip my fingers through my hair, it's out of its pigtails, it's hanging down past my shoulders. Looking out the window, the sun is peeking through the grey filled with rainy clouds but it's still stormy, I must've slept through the whole night. The door springs open as Dr Felix rushes in with a board and paper sitting in his right hand as a pen sits in the other.
"We've done some tests while you slept and there is no sign of anything bad that caused the eye colour change, but it might not be permanent as it your left eye might change to the same greyish blue or your right eye may just go back to green. You'll be fine and you're free to leave. Though, I suggest you get therapy for your Depression and Anorexia." He leaves without another word. "Well, he's such a weirdo," Krait's voice peaks out as he steps into the room, "get some clothes on and we'll head back to Shade's cabin." I am surprised that he is here instead of Shade.
