Aquaponics compared to Hydroponics
With hydroponics, you have to consistently clean out your water supply, because the nutrient solution builds up salts and chemicals in the water, rather than aquaponics which utilizes the roots of the plants to filter and purify the water that goes back to the fish to repeat the cycle. Not only does this consume more water than aquaponics, it is also polluting the utilized water, since there's no transfer of water in hydroponics.
Nutrient solutions for hydroponics are very costly, whereas the fish in aquaponics can be fed worms, bugs, scraps, and parts or leaves from the plants.
Hydroponics revolves around a controlled environment, while aquaponics embraces all the ecosystems as they each play an crucial role in the cultivating process. As such, aquaponics often have less diseases, sicknesses, and pest problems than hydroponics. In hydroponics, you don’t get to cultivate fish, however, this is incorporated in aquaponics.
Hydroponics system users often utilize pesticides to keep off pests from the plant.
