Brendon's POV:

"Your final for the year is to write and preform an original song." Mr Weekes smiled widely.

The class around me seemed not as happy as I was to do the project.

One girl spoke, disappointment in her voice, "That's all? What happened to fun projects!"

Other people kind of glared at her. The final was fun. We just hadn't started yet, and knowing Mr. Weekes, he'd throw in a fun twist to make it more entertaining.

Mr. Weekes' smile faultered. "You're right, that isn't very fun, is it." He paused and smiled again. "That's why you can work in partners!"

The class seemed a lot more excited about that. They cheered, practically.

"Alright class. You're final is due this Friday, no exceptions. Choose your partners and get to work!"

Ryan's POV:

After Mr. Weekes' announcement about partners, I really considered asking Brendon to work with me. Now was my chance.

I could picture it. Me and him, sitting in my room. The lights were dim, only a lamp on my desk was lighting the room, it was night time. We were coming up with ideas, him singing softly, looking deep into my eyes, making me melt inside, and me playing the guitar, lost in the moment. Then, he would stop and tell me that he really liked the song. He would lean in and-

"Ryan!" Pete shouted in my ear, making me jump about ten feet into the air.

"Gosh, Peter. You're going to make the boy deaf!" Patrick patted my head and shot Pete a look.

Pete blushed. "Sorry, Patty."

"Don't call me that." Patrick snapped back, getting slightly annoyed.

"Woah, man. Chill. I'm fine, thanks." I smiled at them both.

"Okay, he can hear. That's good." Patrick chuckled.

"See, I'm not that loud." Pete said.

Brendon raised his eyebrows. "You've got to be joking." Pete looked at him. "You're the loudest person I know, Pete." He laughed.

"Guilty." Pete laughed, raising his hand.

Everyone started choosing partners. Pete and Patrick partnered up, Spencer partnered with some girl from another table, I think her name was Linda.

Soon it was just me and brendon sitting at the table, looking around at all the groups of partners.

I really wanted to ask him. Well, what did I have to lose.

"Hey Brendon," I tapped his shoulder and he turned around. "Hey," he said back.

"So uh, do you wanna be, um, partners with me?" I asked. He sat there for a second, and glanced around the room.

Oh crap, what did I do. Did I stutter? Does he not want to be partners? Does he just not know how to tell me? Ryan, you're such a dumbass! Just thinking you can ask Brendon to-

"Sure." He smiled.

I mentally slapped myself.

See? I knew everything was gonna work out. A sigh of relief flushed over me.

"Cool." Was all I managed to say.

"Yeah, cool." He kept smiling. "So, do you have any ideas?"

"Well, um, not really. I mean I have a few songs I've been working on from time to time but they're really personal." I smiled grimly.
