"(Y/n)? Is that you?" Axton's voice whispered into the night.
"Axton?" I turned around and saw him lying in one of the bottom bunk beds propped up on one arm. "What in the world are you doing up this late?"
"I had to go to the bathroom. I don't know why you're still up, but you should probably get some rest. It's dangerous to go out into combat when your head's not on right."
"Easier said than done," I sighed, sitting down on the bottom bed across from him. No one else was in the other beds. "I haven't been able to sleep at all lately."
"Why not?"
I was a little embarrassed to tell him why, but he was right; if I didn't get this sorted out soon, sleep deprivation would put me in a whole lot of trouble. "At first, it was just my overactive mind making it hard to fall asleep. I'm always thinking, you know? But now, my...my anxiety gets the better of me, and I can't even sleep at all. If I do fall asleep, then it sure doesn't feel like it. I've been trying to go on walks or just sit out on the balcony to clear my head and get some rest, but..."
"Hold up, anxiety? What are ya worried about?"
"Just...a lot of stuff. Handsome Jack's next move, if we'll get through the next day without anyone getting hurt, et cetera et cetera."
"Take it easy. Everything will sort itself out. Worrying about it will only end up hurting ya instead of helping ya."
"You think so?"
He smirked. "I know so."
"That's nice of you to say and all, but it still doesn't help me sleep. It's like...I know I shouldn't be worrying so much, but I can't help it. I don't know what to do..."
"Do you want to sleep with me?"
If only looks could kill.
"T-That isn't what I meant!" He held his hand up and meekly smiled. "I meant, do you want to sleep next to me? As in share the bed in a totally innocent and non-sexual way."
"You're making this worse."
"So what's your answer?"
"..."
"..."
"Fine."
"Wait, really?"
I bent down to take off my shoes. "Yeah, I might as well give it a shot."
"Oh, sweet!" He gladly shifted and scooted towards the wall. I slid into the bed next to him and pulled the sheets over myself.
"I, uh..." That bed was clearly not designed for two people. "Where do I..."
"Hang on." He scooted his head up higher than mine on the pillow and moved closer, so I shifted backwards. "You don't need to go anywhere." He placed his callused hand gently on my back and pushed me towards him, making me instinctively place my hands on his chest. Where else was I supposed to put them? I had noticed that the bed was a little warm from his body heat, but it was much warmer in his arms. "You okay?"
"You're warm..." I snuggled into him and put my arm around him, keeping the other hand on his chest. He smiled at me as my eyes shut.
"Good Night, sweetheart."
I hope you enjoyed some fluff with the one and only (not really) Commando! You can expect another part or two for this story line. I love Axton, I love fluff, and I love sleeping, so there's definitely room for more content, haha!
