When a loved one dies they aren't the only one you lose.
You begin to lose everyone around you. You watch as the people you know become the people you knew. Every person gets touched by death and they die too. When he died I didn't just lose an uncle. I watched as every member of my family got lost too. Thankfully we get a version of those people back: newer, harder, more vulnerable people are born. They are changed. The scars of loss etched on their souls.
They died. But they're still here.
Nothing prepares you for grief. It is all consuming, heartbreaking, soul destroying and unbearable. And yet we bear it. Not because we want to but because we have no choice.
Nothing tests resilience like grief.
In fact, grief tests everything.
