"So many souls that lost control

Where did they fall?

Into the deep, what do they seek?

Where did they fall?

Where did they fall?"

Mercury was hot.

Almost overwhelmingly hot, but Altaïr liked the heat.

The sun bore down on the scorched desert around him, causing the air to ripple with heat. If not for his Ghost and his armor (all parts of Guardian armor were built to stay at a regulated temperature and humidity; otherwise leaving Earth would be nearly impossible), he would have died of heatstroke long ago. The sun-scorched desert that lay before him reminded him of his old home, Masyaf.

The Warlock turned away from where he stood in the shade, facing the disciple before him. "This way, Warlock," the hooded man told him, ushering him inside the House. He led him deep into the earth (or the mars? Ground? He wasn't sure), their footsteps echoing down the stairwell as they traveled. The only light came the dim blue glow of his Ghost, Farid. Eventually, the arid tunnel opened into a large chasm. Sand trickled in from a large cavity above the room, offset by several large tarps hung to form a temporary rooftop for anyone who entered. The ground was covered in sand, save a stone path, worn from ages of use, which wound through the chasm. In the center stood a Vex Gate, partially sunken in the sand, but very much active. Altaïr tensed when he saw the Gate, as an active Vex Gate often led to swarms of Vex. The disciple seemed perfectly calm, however. "This Gate is not linked to any Vex systems. No Vex have used it in millennia," he said quietly. His words calmed him slightly, but he was still on edge. Everything came to an end eventually.

He was led up to the Gate, as the disciple stood to the side with his head bowed. "Master Osiris wanders the Infinite Forest, to learn the secrets of the Vex. Call for Sagira, and he will answer." Altaïr nodded, and stepped towards the gate. He had used Vex tech before. However, he hesitated. Why he did so, he could not answer. A being, a force, perhaps, urging him to stay longer. Or perhaps doubt.

Nonetheless, his hesitation nearly cost the Assassin his life.

His eyes widened slightly as cold steel met flesh. Confused and in pain, he let his arms fall to his side. "Why...?"

"Osiris is not to be disturbed. Do not seek him. Leave Osiris. Leave. Leave."

He turned instantly as he felt the knife leave his back, his own blade pressed against the disciple's throat. "Traitor," he whispered, but he quickly pulled back as he saw the man's face. With his hood removed, he could clearly see the pale and sunken skin. The skin of a man who should have been dead for days, possibly weeks.

He backed away from the disciple as he approached Altaïr, Taken energy pouring from his pores. A deep, maniacal laughter echoed in the chamber as he neared the Gate once more. Before him stood the shadow of Savathûn, the Hive Mother. The disciples of Osiris slowly walked down the steps leading into the room, each holding a candle flickering with Taken magic, chanting the incantations performed by Hive wizards. Altaïr froze as Savathûn spoke.
