  They only got one warning.

And they almost missed it.

Startled out of their sleep, the alpha's looked around their sleeping pack wondering what had woken them.

"It wasn't Dax snoring was it?" Setsuna asked anxiously.
"No." Takeshi muttered, stepping over sleeping wolves to get to the mouth of the den.
He halted, still in the shadows, just in time to see a wolf drag the still form of another into the woods. Alarmed, he hurriedly looked around, only to find that his look out- Axel - had disappeared.

Axel was the most reliable of his guards. He NEVER left his post. Unless.....

Takeshi quickly headed back to his mate, his heart racing. "Wake up Yuki and Aya." He whispered urgently. "We need to get the pups out of here."

"Why?" The luna asked alarmed.

"Shhh!" He hissed. "Just do it!"

The pale wolf hesitated, but then quickly did what the male had ordered.

Takeshi went around waking the others, telling them to be quiet, and to try to sneak out into the cover of the surrounding woods.

Ichigo went out to the front of the cave and stiffened. "Takeshi." He muttered. "Look at the sky."
The alpha gazed at up at the dark sky, as thunder rumbled above them. "What about it?"

"There's a new moon."

"Okay, and your point?"

"That's not possible." His lieutenant muttered. "The last one was only 18 days ago."

"WHAT! Then what the hell's happening?"

"Well... the only way it can be like that is if...." He trailed off, giving his alpha a meaningful look.

"Oh..... oh no..." Takeshi breathed.

"What'll we do, sir?"

Before he could anwer, a deep voice snarled; "Die!"

The lieutenant backed up just in time as a big black wolf launched himself at them.
With a low growl, Takeshi went on defense, his eyes narrowed at the stranger. "Who are you?!"

"Koda, son of Riku. Lieutenant of the Taika pack!"

"Lieutenant of the-" Takeshi shook his head in disbelief. "Impossible! The Taika pack was banished to Kirigakure years ago!"

Koda chuckled. "Oh we were. But you know, it's amazing what you can do when you're chosen by a certain wolf god."

"You mean...."

"Yes, Takeshi, Alpha of the Tenkai pack. We have the power of Lycaon on our side. So, you can either surrender, or be slaughtered like the dogs you are. Either way, this pack will no longer be the highest ranking by the end of the night!"

Thunder roared overhead and rain began to fall in torrents.
"I see..." Takeshi muttered. "Well Koda, I have a little message for your father. Tell him he can take his threats, and his 'power of Lycaon' and cram it up his ass!"
There was a moments pause, and then Koda's eyes began to glow red in the darkness. "Big mistake."

"Don't look him in the eye!" Ichigo shouted. "Ruko, Jet, Jokko, Axel, Mitsuki! Attend me!"

Axel's gone." Takeshi growled. "Y-you killed him didn't you, brat?!"

"Oh, you mean that stupid ninken dog? So what if I did?"

That, was not the smartest thing to say.

Rita had been sound asleep when she was awaken by the eldest den mother; Aya.
"We've got to go now, Hime." She whispered, her voice quivering, as she got the wolfgirl moving.
