part nine

jahseh frowned, trudging into the mall with stokeley. stokeley insisted on buying jahseh some new outfits since about half of his clothes were still at his fathers house and he tends to get anxious whenever his fathers name is mentioned. so stokeley took matters into his own hands and decided it'd be best if he bought some new clothes for jahseh now and then stop by his fathers house while he's asleep or something so he could pick up his clothes.

"stoke slow the hell down you're walking too fast" jahseh whined, tugging on stokeleys shirt sleeve as he tried to pick up his pace. stokeley chuckled and looked down at jahseh who was looking around at the different stores.

"you see any stores you might be interested in?" stokeley asked, coming to a slow stop. jahseh pursed his lips and looked around as they stood in the middle of the mall. there were a few stores that caught his eyes but h&m by far had his heart. he wasn't gonna pick an expensive store like hot topic or pacsun, he'd feel too bad since this was stokeleys money and not his.

jahseh pointed to the store making stokeley chuckle. jahseh looked at him with a frown.

"what?" he asked, furrowing his eyebrows together. stokeley shrugged and smiled.

"oh so you wanted to be the coolest monkey in the jungle today?" jahseh rolled his eyes playfully and began walking towards the store. stokeley laughed whilst jogging behind him, trying to catch up to him.

"wait up!"

jahseh giggled and slowed down his pace, looking over at stokeley who was panting mighty hard. he rolled his eyes and reached for stokeleys hand. stokeley looked at him confused for a second.

"hold my hand so we don't have to keep running after each other" jahseh said. stokeley hesitated before putting his hand in jahsehs. jahseh looked at their intertwined hands with a smile. he then looked at stokeley who was smiling too but he was trying to hide it by looking elsewhere.

when they got into the store, jahseh dragged stokeley over to the men's section where they held his favorite shirts. they were basic tees but they came in nice colors. jahseh chose a forest green shirt off of the rack and held it up. he then looked at the price tag. it was only seven dollars and some odd cent. but jahseh remembered that this was stokeleys money so he put it back.

stokeley furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and grabbed the shirt back off of the rack.

"why'd you put it back jah?" he asked. jahseh jutted out his lip and avoided eye contact with stokeley. stokeley sighed and brought his hand up to jahsehs face, turning him so he could look him in the eyes.

"please don't feel bad okay? i'm the one that offered you this and you can get anything that you want and i'll be totally fine with it because you deserve it jah" stokeley finished. jahseh blinked away the tears and nodded his head. he was so lucky to have a best friend like stokeley.

he remembers when stokeley would pack an extra sandwich in his lunchbox just for jahseh everyday and made sure he ate it right in front of him. that was in eight grade and now the two boys are juniors. stokeley has always been there for jahseh. through all the pain his father has put him through as well as his mother when she was alive. stokeley couldn't see himself without jahseh, he was too important to him. more important than words could describe.

he has such a fragile heart due to the fact that he had a terrible childhood. he's been trying to keep jahsehs emotions at bay. trying to keep his mind off of things that will trigger memories of his past. stokeley felt like it was his duty to protect and make jahseh happy.

jahseh let go of stokeleys hand and wrapped his arms around his torso, sobbing gently into his chest. stokeley let out a small chuckle and hugged him back, swaying them back and forth as jahseh continued to cry.

neither of them seemed to care that they were getting weird looks from ongoing shoppers. they just continued to sway back and forth, basking in each others warmth.

"you excited about your date saturday?" stokeley asked, taking a sip out of his soda. after jahsehs little episode in h&m he bought some shirts and hoodies to add to his wardrobe. they then walked around the mall until jahseh was complaining about being hungry so they decided to eat at buffalo wild wings which was right across the street from the mall.

jahseh shrugged and stirred his straw in his drink. he hasn't really thought about trippie that much. his mind has been focused on other things instead.

"eh i don't know...i might cancel-"

"what?! jah no, that's mean" stokeley scolded him with a frown. he was right but jahseh still didn't want to go on the date.

"well stoke, what do you want me to do? lead him on? that's even worse than canceling on him" jahseh smartly replied making stokeley nod his head reluctantly.

"yeah, i guess you're right—but what's stopping you from going out with him?—if you don't mind me asking" he said cautiously. jahseh sighed and looked away. the actual only reason why jahseh didn't want to go out with trippie was because of stokeley. he felt like if he tried to engage in a relationship with someone else, he'd be cheating on him, even though they aren't together. jahseh just likes stokeley too much to the point where he finds no one else attractive and he hates that about himself.

"oh, ya know, i'm just waiting for the right person to sweep me off my feet.."

"and trippie doesn't seem like the right person?"

"nope" jahseh said, popping the 'p'. stokeley rolled his eyes and waved jahseh off playfully making him chuckle.

once the two were done eating, stokeley paid for their food although jahseh argued about who was gonna pay for about five minutes until stokeley sneakily gave the host his credit card.

now they were parked in stokeleys driveway, sitting in the car just talking and listening to the radio that was currently blasting tyler the creator. stokeley turned down the music making jahseh scrunch up his face in confusion.

"you said you were waiting for the right guy to sweep you off of your feet, correct?" stokeley asked. jahseh nodded and hummed.

"well what might 'the right guy' need to have in order to be the right guy" stokeley said, looking over at jahseh who had his lip between his teeth as he thought about the question.

"they have to be really sweet and also have a great sense of humor—um selfless and have a lot of confidence? i find that very attractive—i don't really care about looks but maybe a few tats and a piercing would be nice—and i want to be able to put my trust in them? like come to them whenever times are getting tough because i know they'll be there and they won't tell other people about what we talked about—and yeah that's about it" he finished, looking over at stokeley who simply nodded. on the inside though, he was smiling like crazy. jahsehs description of the right guy seemed to be solely based off of stokeley which made him happy cause stokeley always thought he was the perfect guy for jahseh. he couldn't see him with anyone else.

maybe he did have a chance.
