"They're here, Arthur, Sirius, they're here!"
Mrs. Weasley was running towards us all across the lawn of the Burrow, a wide smile on her face as she saw her children.
We had arrived to the Burrow by a port key set up by Dumbledore, who thought it best we get to our destination as quickly and safely as possible.
I saw Sirius and Arthur walking out of the back door. Sirius' injuries had since been cleared up and he looked as happy and healthy as ever. I allowed Mrs. Weasley the chance to hug all of her kids as I made my way to Sirius, Harry close behind me.
"Merry Christmas, Liz." he smiled at me, opening his arms and hugging me tight.
"You look so much better, I was worried the injuries-"
"Let's not talk about that, it's the holidays."
I nodded, stepping back to let Harry and Sirius greet each other.
"Eliza, dear, how are you doing?" Mrs. Weasley reached me now, pulling me in for a bone crushing hug. It was nice though, really.
"I'm doing well, thank you for having us all for Christmas. I really hope it isn't too much-"
"Nonsense! I like when you are all under my roof because I know you are all safe! Now let's all get inside before we freeze to death!"
We walked in through the kitchen door, the smell of a roast in the oven and freshly baked goods instantly making my stomach rumble.
"Dinner will be served shortly, so you lot wash up." Mrs. Weasley said, pointing her wand towards a pot full of water that immediately started boiling. She always went all out on Christmas eve dinners.
I followed Ginny up to her room with Hermione, where there were two extra beds set up for us all to share the room.
We changed out of our robes and into more casual clothes. I opted for a sweater Mrs. Weasley had knitted me last year for Christmas and a comfy pair of jeans.
"So, Liz... what did you get George for Christmas?" Ginny's question caused my head to snap up.
I hesitated, then spoke, "I got him a box of filibuster fireworks and a few other things.." I muttered the last part quietly, hoping they wouldn't pry, which thankfully they did not.
Dinner was delicious, as usual. Remus and Tonks joined us, as did Kingsley Shacklebolt, a rough looking auror with a heart of gold.
"That color really does suit you, Liz, that's some of my better work that is." Mrs. Weasley pointed to my sweater, looking proud of herself. I smiled at her, pulling my mug of hot coco up to my mouth.
We were sat in the sitting room by the fire, listening to Christmas music play softly on the record player in the corner. Kingsley, Remus and Tonks had since left as they had family to visit with. Arthur and Sirius had agreed to clean the kitchen so Mrs. Weasley could sit down and relax, which she seemed to have needed very much.
George and I were sitting together on the loveseat, I had absentmindedly leaned against George. He pulled a blanket over the back of the sofa and draped it over the two of us, making me snuggle even further into the sofa.
I happened to glance over at Mrs. Weasley that moment, seeing her watch George and I with squinted eyes, but a grin playing around her mouth.
"Heard from Bill yet, mum?" Ginny asked, sitting on the floor by the fire with Harry.
"He's spending the holiday in France with Fleur's family, they decided it was high time they met as they will be getting married this summer."
We sat for hours, talking about the holidays and catching up with each other. Eventually, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley went off to bed, and everyone soon trailed off after them.
"Liz, wait up," I felt a hand grab mine, turning to meet George's eye.
We waited until everyone left the room, George pulling me over by the fireplace.
"I wanted to give you your gift," he told me, sounding a bit nervous. He pulled a long box out from behind a clock on the mantle, handing it to me.
It was wrapped in silver paper and had a red bow tied around it. Smiling, I opened the lid and revealed its contents.
Inside was a beautiful silver bracelet, with about six little charms on it. I felt my mouth fall open, looking at each little charm.
"The lion is of course, for Gryffindor. The dog for Sirius, the fireworks because, well, I like explosives," I laughed at this, shaking my head at his never ceasing antics, "and the mistletoe for, well, our first kiss."
I looked up at him, he had been watching me anxiously. I could hardly find words to describe how much this meant.
"George, it's.. perfect. Thank you,"
He let out a breath of relief, helping me put the bracelet on my wrist.
"It's goblin made. Because I had it made for someone I, uh, care about it has this extra little charm right here," he fingered a smaller golden heart charm, which seemed to glow a little at his touch, "they say it will supply protection to whoever wears it."
"It's wonderful, Georgie. Makes my gift look quite dull though.. Here," I walked over to the armoire by the fireplace and took the two parcels I had hidden there.
I handed them to George, watching as he carefully undid the wrappings. I was nervous. He put so much thought into my gift, and I cannot imagine how much it cost him.. Goblin made? That isn't cheap, and to put an enchantment on it..
"Wonderful, I've been thinking Snape needed a bit of a shock," George smiled as he pulled out the box of Fillibuster fireworks.
He pulled the strings of the next parcel, the wrappings falling off to reveal a smaller box.
From inside, he pulled an older picture of the two of us, taken our fourth year at Hogwarts. It was my favorite picture of the two of us. We were sitting out by the lake watching the squid splashing around in the water. George had just said something that had made me fall back onto the grass in laughter, his gaze on me as he was now laughing at me. We looked happiest in this picture, together.
"You know, this was the moment I fell for you." George smiled up at me, making me weak in the knees.
I smiled back, "There's one more part,"
George opened the box further to find a slightly dull knut. He looked confused, so I explained to him,
"The first day we met, on the Hogwarts Express, you bet me a knut that I couldn't eat an entire box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. Well, I did and-"
"And I was in such shock that I gave you that knut. I was more so impressed than shocked, I knew then I had found my best friend. I remember that, I can't believe you kept this.." he flipped the coin over in his hands, a content smile on his face.
I watched him as he looked between the knut and the picture of the two of us. The thought he had put into his gift for me was incredible, and it made me think. I wanted to be with George, there was no doubting that anymore. Standing here with him, both of us so clearly smitten for each other, I knew he was who I wanted to be with.
"George.. what are we doing?" I asked quietly, as if someone would hear me from the rooms upstairs.
He met my gaze, placing the gifts down on the mantle, he stayed silent, looking slightly confused.
Just say it. Be bold. I thought to myself before I spoke, "George, I want to be with you."
George's eyes softened as he looked at me, his hands moving up to cup my face in them.
"Well, it's a good thing I fancy you then, isn't it?"
And with that, he closed the distance between us, his lips meeting mine with a yearning that could only be satisfied by each other. My hands moved to his chest as I leaned into him, relishing every little moment.
We parted, looking at each other with silly grins as we had been so immersed in our moment it hardly seemed real.
"Be my girlfriend," George said, making me smile with enthusiasm.
I smirked. The thought of being George's girlfriend really put things into perspective. Looking up at him, I entwined our fingers.
"Only if you be my boyfriend,"
George beamed at me, leaning down once more to kiss me again.
