CH.6
Before now, happiness was just a fantasy. Surprisingly I have it now. My heart feels full, despite the despair in the pit of my stomach. When I got home, my dad was sitting in his armchair, waiting for me to show. '
"Hi, dad." I said looking at the floor as I shut the door.
"Where you been River?" is all he said.
"I been at school."
He stood up and walked over to me, I looked up at his cold face, and then saw nothing as he punched me in the left eye. I felt a sharp sting and throbbing pain as a quiet sob escaped my lips.
"That'll be black before you know it." dad said as he went into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
When the vision in the eye he didn't punch was restored I made my way into my own bedroom and looked at my painful and swollen black eye.

As soon as I was ready, I ran out the front door, and jogged to the bus stop, where River was waiting patiently. We embraced in a warm loving hug, and kissed.
I noticed he was wearing sunglasses, and had is hood pulled over his head. I asked suspiciously, "Who are you hiding from?"
Obviously the sun almost doesn't exist in Raindell, so sunglasses are pointless. "I'm not hiding." he said shortly.
"Then take those off." I glared at him. I stood tapping my foot with my arms crossed, waiting for him to remove the shades.
Looking down at his feet he slowly took them off, then threw them in the mud. He looked up at me, and I gasped.
Tears filled my eyes as I said, "I'm so sorry, River." I knew his dad had done this.
"Don't be, its not your fault." He replied looking back at the ground.
I embraced him tightly and quickly responded, "I know, but I'm still sorry, I hate that you have to go through this."
The bus pulled up and before we got on River smiled and said, "At least I'm not alone."
