A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won't be too bad. -Robert Wagner

The sun peeked through the dark grey clouds that covered the sky. The sun rays-which gave warmth to the cold wind- shone onto the destroyed country of Japan. The once bustling city that never slept was deathly silent and there was no life to be seen. Skyscrapers that were once standing tall above Tokyo, had fallen down from the bombs but also how long they were left unattended by humans. Plants and trees were growing in some areas but others had none and the holes that the bombs made were filled with disgusting greenish brown water that still had steam coming from the mucky water. It must have some radiation from the bombs or maybe over the years, people just threw their waste or even toxic waste into the many water filled holes.

The air smelt polluted but, it seemed to be clearing up. It probably was much worse when the bombs had fallen. Cars were rusted through and some were broken into pieces, others were mangled. Stores had their windows boarded up like the store owners thought they were going to come back and take them off. Some of the smaller buildings had large chunks of debris on them. Others were completely destroyed. The streets were no better. Sprawled across the streets were a few skeletons, maybe even a few hundred scattered here and there. Like the people of Japan couldn't get away fast enough from the bombs. There were large pot holes in the streets as well as more debris and a few large tree trunks. As Haku walked through what was once Tokyo, he felt saddened by the destruction of the once lively city.  He remembered coming through here when he was a kid and holding his mom and dad's hands. It was a happy time back then...simple. His footsteps echoed as he moved slowly down the destroyed street, looking at the stores he uses to visit when he was a kid as well when he was older.

Haku's breathing was shallow and his mask hardly made a sound since he fixed it before he left the testing facility a few weeks ago. He traveled pretty fast, especially since he could shadow walk. Although, he did get extremely tired and his body did take longer to regenerate. He would need to use that ability carefully until he could find something to stabilize his powers. He could have checked the facility, but something told him that there would be nothing there to help him. Besides, he didn't want to stay in that place any longer than he had to. The human stopped in the middle of the street and looked down. He saw a half charred baby doll and kneeled down to look at it closely. A child probably dropped it in all the commotion and Haku prayed that child got out safety. And if not, he hoped they at least died quickly and without pain. He turned his head quickly to the right when he heard a pebble get kicked and the male stood up, turning fully to the dark alley way.

There was a small whimper yet the male kept his guard up and slowly made his way over the the dark alley. He had his pistol out and held it in front of him. When he finally stepped into the dark, it was like day. Whatever they did to him, he could see in the dark. Like a cat. What the man saw made him sigh lightly and put his gun away.  It was a German Shepherd and it looked pretty skinny but it's tail was wagging as it saw Haku, so it was friendly.

"Hey, boy.  What are you doing out here all by yourself?" Haku asked as he slowly took his bag off and unzipped it to get some precious food and water for the dog. The man had a can of dog food he had found when he first came into the city and was glad he picked it up.  The dog yipped happily as he trotted over and sat in front of Haku, waiting patiently for the food and water. Haku smiled as he took out two plastic bowls that were slightly misshapen but they could still hold food or water.

"It's been a while since I actually saw other life around here." Haku said as he made the shadows around his finger razor sharp to open the can. The dog watched the food intently

"I just wonder how you even survived." The male dumped the food in the bowl and put water in the other before pushing it towards the dog who stood up and was hopping back and forth on his two front paws and Haku laughed lightly "there you, buddy. Eat up." The dog all but inhaled the food and Haku just pulled out another one and fed it to the dog as well.

After the dog ate and was now full, he looked at Haku with those big watery eyes of his and the male smiled lightly as he put the bowls away. "Want to come with me, boy?" The dog barked happily and Haku reached out to rub the side of the Shepard's neck.  "Alright then,  you're coming with me." Haku stood up and took a shaky breath, his lungs were regenerating again and it caused him to shiver in pain but the dog cocked his head and let out an concerned whine.

"I'm okay, buddy." He reached down and gently ran his hand over the dog's head. The dog licked Haku's hand and he looked at his new friend with a hidden smile. His usually dull eyes had a spark of love and protectiveness towards the pup. Haku turned and walked out of the alley,  hearing the dog trotting behind.   "It's going to rain...we need to find a place to stay." He looked down at the dog who was looking up at him and he sighed softly.

"I need to give you a name." He was quiet and looked up at the cloudy sky.  Haku looked back at the Shepard.

"Tamotsu." The dog barked and spun  around in a circle,  wagging his tail happily and Haku grinned behind his mask.

"Tamotsu it is then. Let's go, boy." The male began walking down the destroyed street of Tokyo, Japan.  He thought he would be alone, but then he found Tamotsu. Maybe living in this new destroyed world won't be so bad after all. He has a new friend.
