I always wondered why my mother used to sit out on the porch when it rained. Now, sitting down and listening to the rain...I understood why she liked it. It's quiet and peaceful.-Haku Ito
The rain came down like someone had poured a bucket of icy cold water onto the city below. Besides the rain making tapping noises as it fell onto the Earth below, it was quiet. Peaceful even. Haku sat leaning against the wall of an abandoned room. Him and Tamotsu were staying on the second story of a apartment building that was still standing.
The balcony was crumbling and falling to pieces so he didn't want to step out onto it. Tamotsu laid beside him, head on his paws and sleeping. The last few days had been good for him and his new friend. They found more food and Haku even found a medical kit. The medicine was still good, after all these years. He decided to save it for a serious situation. The man had taken off his mask and was wheezing just a little but with fresh water coming down and wind blowing in some fresh air, it was a little easier to breath. His golden eyes looked down at the German Shepherd and he reached down and gently ran his hand over the dog's back. The dog sighed softly but stayed asleep and Haku smiled and turned his head back to the rain.
It was starting to slow down but didn't look like it would stop any time soon. The brunette remembered when he was little and it would rain, his mother would go out and sit on the porch to watch the water fall from the sky. He never understood why she would go out and watch water fall. But, the sound it made as it fell onto the many different materials or even in puddles...it was calming. Peaceful even. Now he understood why she loved it. He didn't understand it when he was a kid, but he used to sit with his mom and take naps while she held him and sang a soft lullaby to him. Haku swallowed thickly and looked down at his lap. The mask was staring back at him and he felt his eyes water and his already sore throat become tight and it hurt to hold back the tears. He missed his mother and his father. He wished they were here with him so he wouldn't be so alone. He took a shaky breath and coughed a little before leaning his head back and turned his watery gaze back out to the rain.
"I miss you all." He roughly whispered out and wiped the tears from his cold face. He quickly looked down when Tamotsu lifted his head, ears up and began growling softly. Haku put his mask back on and stood up, getting his pistol put and putting it in front of him. His heightened hearing picked up footsteps but they stopped immediately and he strained his ears to hear anything. Nothing. His eyes began turning pitch black, he could see better in the dark if his eyes were covered in his shadows. Sort of like an x-ray in his eyes. He could pick up different shapes, living or not in the shadows and a little beyond. The male carefully moved forward, holding out his hand for Tamotsu as he heard the dog get up and try to move over.
"Stay, boy." He whispered faintly and he heard his dog whine gently but the dog stayed. Haku moved into the dark hall, the dark clouds blocked a lot of the light so it was much darker than usual. It was supposed to be the middle of the day, but Haku guessed that the radiation messed with the weather. He stopped and looked around the shadows, the human didn't hear or see anything. Nothing that would make Tamotsu growl. *What the hell. I thought I heard foot steps* he thought in confusion and turned around to go back but heard a few clicks followed by a soft purr. The man stopped in his tracks, a chill went down his spine and he could feel the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. He could feel eyes staring holes in his neck.
Haku swallowed thickly and slowly turned around, flinching back a little in surprise as he saw two bright electric blue eyes looking straight at him. And they seemed to be high in the shadows. But all he could see was the eyes and nothing else. Not even an outline.
"You." Haku rasped out. He remembered seeing these same blue eyes when he was making his way to the city.
It didn't say anything but kept staring "You," it began and the man was surprised when the voice sounded male. It was deep and raspy yet it had a metallic ring to it. "Are an interesting human. What experiments did the other humans do to you?" Haku blinked and lowered his gun a little in surprise.
"You were at the facility?" Haku asked.
"I was one of the experiments. I was taken by force." The being spoke, sounded slightly annoyed but didn't sound angry.
"You were...taken by force? Could you not escape?"
"No. They had me under...strong drugs. I could not move. Not until I woke up again and escaped from the cryo chamber."
Haku was quiet for a minute as he stared at those eyes. He squinted his eyes a little and turned his head slightly. By now, the rain had stopped and the clouds parted to let some sun light through. The light came through the broken windows and Haku looked at the light then back at the being.
"Step into the light so I can see you."
It was quiet for a few seconds and Haku wondered if the being would even listen to him until the eyes moved closer. Haku stepped back a little as the being stepped slowly into the light and Haku felt his breath leave his body. The creature had to be at least 7 feet tall, maybe even taller. There were dark dreads that sat on large shoulders and stopped at his mid arm.
He didn't have much clothing on, large shorts that were tattered and looked ready to fall off, his chest was bare and he had a fishnet shirt on. His skin looked like a lizard, light brown scales that had a hint of white on his stomach and going underneath the pants. He had a spear like weapon on his back, what looked like an hidden blade on his right arm and he had a belt with other pouches hanging around his waist. Haku did see a large duffle bag that was hanging from his spear.
Half of the creature's face was covered by a metal mask, and Haku didn't know if he was happy or if he should be concerned what was underneath that mask. The man blinked a couple of times.
"What...are you?" He breathed out and the creature just stared at Haku with those intense eyes.
"Some would call me an Alien. I suppose that is true, I am not of this planet. But, what you may call me is a Yaujta."
