"Your heart actually contains neurons, similar to those in your brain, and your heart and brain are closely connected, creating a symbiotic emotional whole. When your heart receives signals from the brain via the sympathetic nerves, it pumps faster. And when it receives signals through the parasympathetic nerves, it slows down. ...
Our biology teacher Miss Andrews explained while pointing towards the big chart that was hung in front of the green board.
So brain now started affecting heart too, I scoffed at the thought and at the same time my teacher exclaimed.
'Yes, Your Heart Also Affects Your Mind '.
Isn't that great?
I sighed and tried to focus on the ongoing 'heart is mind' topic, as I would Iike to call it, when someone poked my shoulder, halting me in my concentration process.
I looked forward towards Miss Andrews who was reading from her book and wrote notes on the board, and as soon as she turned herself towards the board, I quickly craned my neck and turned around, only to find a smirking Becky.
Well if it isn't my best friend.
"What" I mouthed to her.
"10 minutes left " she whispered me in a cheerful tone.
I gave her a grim expression to which she smiled sheepishly.
Ignoring her I resumed listening to the current topic.
I twirled the pencil around my fingers as I looked around, now bored as the topic made no sense to me now because I was interrupted by a stupid someone. But of course, you will be excited too if you were going to the Bahamas for the break.
Almost everyone was awake, I could see the excited faces around, which but the way is something unusual, happening inside a biology class. But as it was the last day of junior high, which also made teacher sneaking glances towards her watch along with the students.
"It seems like science is now restoring to the heart something that rightfully belongs to it: Our emotions."
And the bell took its cue, followed by a sudden adrenaline rush in students and hoots and chatter surrounded every wall of the school.
I got up from my seat and grabbed my belongings and suddenly I was being dragged by an enlivened Becky who still had to calm down.
"Woah Woah Woah .. Will you please slow down a minute ." I started.
"I am so happy Amara, we finished the junior high and we are gonna be seniors and and Oh I'm going to the Bahamas, but wait I will miss you a lot..... Omg, I'm so happy " She gushed happily.
Did I mention Becky is super cheery, like a lot?
Just the person I need in my life.
Not that I'm suicidal or anything like that.
"Will you breath for a minute ?" I asked.
She nodded her head left and right in a no while grinning.
I frowned at her reply but shrugged it away as it was Becky being Becky. She wrapped her arm around my shoulder as we made our way out of the school.
I glanced towards the 5'6 form of my best friend, her caramel colored skin shone in the sun, big doe blue eyes that I always envied, glanced at me from time to time as I listened to her banters. Her black 'straight as pin hair', her saying, swayed as she moved.
"And did I forget how hot are the guys there, I sure will get you a number" She rambled on.
I merely nodded at her when a car's honking stopped us. We looked back only to find a smiling Fred, Becky's dad waving at me.
