Chapter Nineteen

Now a week had passed and Hermione hadn’t spoken to Draco. Not even once. He was completely avoiding her. Even going through the trouble of taking a different route to class, even if it meant that he had to walk around the entire school instead of just straight through.

When Hermione finally had a study period, she entered the library and sat down at the nearest table. She had only been reading and practicing some charms for a few minutes when Draco entered the room and immediately turned around and walked out. Hermione slammed her book shut and ran after him.

“Malfoy!” she shouted, surprised at herself. He stopped in the middle of the deserted corridor and faced her. “I am sick and tired of you avoiding me! At first you were all for us being together and I wasn’t and now it’s the exact opposite!” Draco kept silent, waiting for her to continue.

“Well, you’re not going to argue back? You had me almost feeling sorry for you! I thought that this is what you wanted! Us to be together!” Draco was still silent. “Say something!” Hermione screamed at him.

“I do want this, but I don’t deserve it!” he finally yelled back. Hermione pushed him.

“Since when do you care for what you deserve? For six years you were a bloody selfish little boy who felt he was entitled to everything! Since when does it even matter?”

“Since I met you!” Hermione’s face left it’s scrunched up position and she listened to what else he had to say. “Damn it, Hermione! You make this so difficult! This whole to be or not to be rubbish is tearing me apart! Help! Tell me what to do!”

            There was a prolonged silence.

“Be with me,” Hermione breathed. She walked over to Draco and hugged him. He didn’t even hug her back. His arms hung there limp. Paralyzed.

“I…” Draco loosened Hermione’s grip and stepped back. “I’ll see you around then.” He walked away and Hermione watched him do so.

“Yeah, you too.” She then returned to the library and kept reading, but just like before, her mind was obsessing over one boy. Draco Malfoy.
