Jesse's POV
My phone didn't just ring so when it did, I knew it could only be one person. Besides after three missed calls, it'd have been hard to not guess who the caller was.
"Yes?" I said flatly into the phone.
It had been a long day and I didn't have the energy to fake excitement that I didn't feel.
"Hello to you too," my employer said sarcastically.
"Any reason you're blowing up my phone on a Friday night?"
"I have a job for you," he said.
Graham Security was one of my worst gigs, I hated guarding but more so, I hated the clients. It couldn't get worse than spending the whole day following a rich pretentious prick who thought the world revolved around him when all that was standing between him and a bullet was the very staff he was treating like dirt.
But it brought money and that was all that mattered.
"I'm listening."
"This is an old client of mine and I'd have gone myself if I could but that's not possible right now so I'm sending you."
Graham had broken his knee on a recent hiking trip with his partner so he was pretty much stuck in the office until the shit healed.
"Send me the details."
"Ok, file coming through to your phone."
I went to my email and clicked open the scanned pdf document.
"Her name is---"
"Blaire," I cut him off, the coincidence making my head reel.
I couldn't fucking believe it. This was one person I'd have gladly gone my whole life without ever meeting again.
"You know her? Well that simplifies things then," Graham began but I interrupted him before he could get ahead of himself.
"I don't want the job Graham."
There was silence on the phone but he quickly recovered.
"I realize it might be awkward working for someone you know but this is Felipe Castillo's daughter, you don't say no to Felipe Castillo."
She was Castillo's daughter? Anyone who was anyone in the underworld knew who that man was. I more than anyone knew who Castillo was and what I knew didn't make the situation any better for Barbie.
"I don't care if she's Trump's daughter Greg, find someone else."
Besides from the history I had with her old man and the scores I had to settle with him, the five minutes I had spent in the presence Castillo's mouthy, prissy, and aggravating daughter had left me with a headache. I was not about to it 24/7, not for any kind of money.
Everything about her from her multi-streaked blonde Barbie hair to her perfectly manicured nails and clothes that cost more than my rent had irritated me. And that had all been before she had opened that holier-than-thou mouth.
Naturally I hated rich people but when they came in a spoilt, judgemental, bratty and bitchy package I liked to keep my distance. I had seen how in one second she had measured me, found me lacking and compartmentalized me.
But that was fine because I wanted nothing to do with her prude ass either. I knew her type, the people who had never had to work for anything in their life, the people who worried about a broken fingernail when people like me worried for the next meal. They disgusted me.
Graham wanted me to guard her? I'd strangle her before whoever was after her got to her.
"I don't think you heard me Mowatt. This is Castillo's daughter. "
"I've given my position. Anything else?"
"Listen kid, I've allowed you to choose your assignments in the past because you're easily one of my best workers but this is one time I'll have to withdraw that privilege."
"In other words if I don't take this assignment you'll fire me?"
"I'm hoping it won't get that far," he said, the threat clear in his voice.
This was not my favourite job but it was by far the most paying and with Brooke's chemo session coming up, I needed the money.
"I'll look at the file."
"Alright, get back to me when you're done. You'll need to start early, our client is unprotected."
I ended the call and perused the file.
Blaire Castillo, 21 years old, female, international gymnastics finalist, partial celebrity, parents divorced, father Felipe Castillo-business mogul (ties in the underworld), mother Lara Castillo- supermodel and actress...
I stopped reading the background because I could practically guess everything. Rich people were not as diverse as they liked to believe. I skipped to the reason for her needing a bodyguard.
There were a couple of notes that her father had been receiving and recently a phone call so it was not that serious. But the old man was spooked so there probably was more he wasn't sharing.
I picked up my phone and called Gregory Graham.
"How long is this gonna take?" I asked.
I hated open ended assignments.
"As long as it'll take."
I made an impatient sound.
"I can't give a specific period but I don't see it taking more than a month."
That was already too much.
"Is there any history between you and Miss Castillo that I should be worried about Jesse?"
"We never fucked if that's what you're asking."
"Well good, Castillo is mental about his daughter so keep your hands to yourself."
If I took up this job, me screwing his daughter would be the least of Castillo's worries. Not with the amount of scores I had to settle with the man. Maybe it was time to look at this opportunity more positively.
"You won't have to worry about that."
I'd sooner stick it in a cabbage than in Blaire Castillo, everything about her and who she was repulsed me.
I wasn't going to deny she had a body to her and a nice face but I was 23 and it took more than a pretty face and perky tits to get my dick up. Especially if I couldn't tell how much of it all was real and how much had been paid for.
"Great. I knew you were perfect for this job."
"Don't push it. There's only one reason I'm doing this."
I wasn't excited but money was money, even if it came from someone I'd rather kill than work for. But first things first. I needed to go see Brooke first and tell her of the developments.
I would clear my schedule and my mind and maybe I would be able to actually get this shit done without too much incidence.
I didn't know what it was about her but I'd never met a woman I'd hated instantly on sight the way I'd hated Blaire Castillo. Now that I knew she was Felipe Castillo's daughter however, my subconscious reaction to her wasn't all that surprising.
But regardless of my feelings on the lady in question, she was going to be my paycheck for the next couple of weeks and I could suck it up and pretend everything about who she was and what she represented didn't make me sick.
Besides, it was a small price to pay for revenge, which was the exact thing that was coming Felipe Castillo's way.
