Chapter 5: The Welcoming Committee

(A/): Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't really updated in forever. I've barely had any time with school and dance and everything that goes on in my crazy life. It also didn't help that I had a huge case of writer's block these past months. I haven't written anything in the past six months it's so bad.

Anyways, I hope to post a few chapters over Spring Break. Enjoy!

"Amelia! Darling, how are you?" A middle aged woman makes her way across the somewhat crowded living room towards us and crushes Amelia in a bear hug. She has bright red lipstick on and it leaves a mark on Amelia's cheek when the lady pulls away. I hold in my laughter as Amelia attempts to wipe away the lipstick when the lady's head is turned.

"Mrs. Saltenfruss, it's always a pleasure!" Amelia exclaims over enthusiastically."How are Taylor and the kids?" she asks. The two converse for a few minutes before the lady's attention turns to me.

"Oh, so this must be the Hunter Weathers?" She smiles and I nod.

" It's very nice to meet you ma'am," I say as she shakes my hand. She grins at me and clasps my hands in her leathery ones.

"Such a handsome and polite young man, don't you think Amelia?" Mrs. Saltenfruss sighs."This town needs more of men like you dear. Well," she laughs," I see a cheese and cracker platter over there, so I will see the two of you later! It was nice meeting you, Hunter!" she waves over her shoulder as she makes her way to the snack table. Amelia nervously chuckles and waves back.

"She seems like a lovely woman," I say to Amelia. She laughs and runs a hand through her blonde locks.

"The loveliest around, but, boy, does she know how to talk!"

Mrs. Grace called for everyone's attention a few hours into the party.

I had already met Amelia's friends, some of the school teachers I would have, and most of the neighbors. They all seemed nice except for three people: a boy named Max, a girl named Ruby, and another girl named, Dylan. Supposedly, they were all friends with Amelia and no offense to her, but these people did not seem like good friends.

"Thank you all for coming out here tonight!" Mrs. Grace started."We are blessed to have a new addition to the family and this town for the next year. Hunter," she turned towards me and everyone followed." Welcome to Tennesee!"

Many hooted and clapped and cheered while I stood there like an idiot trying to keep myself from looking at Amelia. She was wearing a blue, sleeveless sundress and her brown cowboy boots from earlier. Her hair was in soft curls and cascaded down her back. I'll admit, to myself, that she sure was the prettiest girl I've seen since I arrived.

The party continued late into the night and the teenagers were starting to take over. I was serving myself a cup of lemonade when Amelia and her sister, Meredith came over.

"Hunter! Everyone's headed towards the lake! You wanna come? It'll be real fun." Amelia wiggled her eyebrows, making me laugh. I nodded.

"Sure." I said. Meredith took the cup out of my hands and Amelia grabbed my arm, leading me out of the house and away from the party.
