Can't be unlearned, I've known the warmth of your doorways. I know who I am when I'm alone. Something else when I see you.
She had been staring at the book for what seemed like hours. The rest of the gladers were asleep but no matter how hard she tried her body wouldn't relax.
Open it.
That's all she heard on repeat in her mind however she didn't know how.
The journal was in perfect condition not a spec of water or dust on it but there was a lock sealing it shut.
If she knew where it was she had to know how to open it right?
With a sigh Brooke thinks back to after she found the book. Thomas hadn't stopped staring at her with what looked like concern which doesn't make sense to the brunette especially if he didn't trust her.
Open it.
Aris and Minho looked like they wanted to tell her off but with one glance at her they realized just how shaken up she was.
Open it.
She glances at Thomas, for some reason he decided to sleep as close to her as possible again. She just doesn't get it, if he doesn't trust her why does he act like he cares so much?
Does he think she can tell him something about his life before WCKD?
She lets out a small laugh, she doesn't even remember much of her life before WCKD. The flashes of memories don't feel real to her. Almost like shes remembering another girls life. Which I guess you could say she was.
Open it.
"Hey you alright?"
The voice started her and she jumped snapping out of her daze. She looks into Thomas' brown eyes and realizes she had been staring at him this whole time.
Quickly she turns away, "I'm fine."
Open it.
She wraps her arms around her body and lays her head in her knees hoping that will make the voice in her head go away.
Thomas looks at her with concern and before he realizes what he's doing reaches for her arm.
When he touches her she relaxes for a second but then realizes what shes doing and goes stiff.
Thomas retracts his arm, "Sorry." He doesn't know why he did that. It just felt right, comfortable.
She lifts her head to look at him but he looks away. "I- Its okay," and with a small smile she turns to look out onto the sand.
Open it.
From the corner of her eye she sees Thomas suddenly go stiff and before she can ask whats wrong he speaks, "Do u see that?"
"See what?"
"That right over there! That light!" He lifts up to his feet and begins to wake everyone up.
Brooke squints and surely enough does see the light in a building a couple thousand feet away from where they set up camp.
Open it.
She begins to pack away her stuff and shoves the journal in her bag. As she does that something bright catches her eye.
Picking it up Brooke realizes its the locket.
Open it.
Hesitantly she begins to open the locket and holds it close to her face so she can get a good look.
On one side is a picture of her, Aris, and her mother and father. On the other side its a picture of her smiling while a boy has his arms wrapped around her.
She inspects the picture and realizes that the boy is Thomas. Upon realization of who the boy is she drops the locket back on the ground.
The other gladers are already beginning to run toward the light but Thomas stays behind and waits for her, "Brooke lets go! I think a storm
Is coming."Take it.
Still shaken up from the revelation Brooke picks up the locket and begins to run toward Thomas.
