"I'm a princess cut from marble smoother than a storm, and the scars that mark my body they're silver and gold."
Brooke placed her stuff on the ground and sat down.
The group had walked for a while, and she concluded it was because they wanted to be as far away from Winston's body as possible.
She swallowed thickly and looked up at the sky. It was beginning to get dark meaning they would set up camp here.
Brooke let out a long exhale from her nose.
The world hated her. That was the only explanation she could think of that would explain how she got in such a predicament.
She continued to look at the sky, mesmerized by it colors, and trying to distract herself from what was actually going on.
She wanted to escape the real world even if it was just for a little bit.
To escape the fire the others were in the process of making, Winston's death, and the burning feeling she felt in the pit of her stomach that told her she wasn't going to make it.
That's what Brooke wanted to do; however, she never got what she wanted because like she said earlier, the world hated her.
Without looking to confirm her suspicion on who it was Brooke spoke, "Thomas send you to do an emotional report, or is this for your own benefit?"
The boy scoffs, "Actually, I was just trying get away from all the depressing shit thats going on over there and for a second thought dealing with you being annoying would be better. Guess I was wrong."
Brooke turned to Minho and raised her eyebrow, "If I'm so annoying then leave."
He stared at her long and hard as if he was thinking, but Brooke already knew his answer, "No."
Minho then turned around and grabbed rocks beginning to throw them at her one bye one.
"Hey, stop that!" Brooke brought her hand up to cover her face but it was too late one flew and hit her straight in the forehead causing Minho to burst out laughing.
She grumbled as she rubbed her face, "You're insufferable and bipolar."
Her statement caused him to stop laughing and frown.
"You have to understand where im coming from Brooke, it's really not anything personal."
The girl sighed and turned her attention back to the sky, "I know, but I- you do realize that if i could've done anything different I would have right?"
"I think if all of us had the chance we would do things differently."
Brooke smiled and turned to the asian boy, "You know, you're not half bad mean hoe."
The boy scowled and blinked several times, "Did you just, did you just call me mean hoe?" The girl laughed and Minho frowned, "And you call me insufferable."
A piece of what looked like a building caught Brooke's attention and she froze.
Images and scenes flashed into her mind as she continued to stare.
"Brooke are u alright?" Minho looked at the brunette with concern but she didn't hear him.
Run.
So she did. The Chamberlin girl took off running towards the building with Minho calling after her but she didn't care.
She continued to run as fast as she could to a destination she didn't know would show her, but she trusted it.
Whatever was there her subconscious was telling her she needed to find.
Minho's yelling caught the attention of the other gladders and Thomas dropped his things sprinting towards Brooke.
When the brunette got to the buried sky scraper all she saw was murky water. Out of breath she tugged at her hair wanting to scream.
When she moved she saw something shine deep in the water. Brooke quickly took off her jacket and shoes and dove into the water despite everyones screams and protests.
Thomas stopped at the water taking off his jacket so he could jump in after her but Minho stopped him by grabbing his shoulder.
"No! Get off me! We have to help her!" He struggled against Minho's grip which only got tighter.
"We can't Tommy, you know that." Newt's words made Thomas stop struggling and he hung his head.
Brooke continued to swim. She was so close to reaching the object that caught her attention, but her lungs screamed for air.
Still, she continued to swim and when she finally came to her destination she tugged the weeds off of it as quickly and erratically as she could.
It appeared to be a bag with a journal like book inside it.
There was also a locket attached to it which must have been the silver thing that shone in the water.
She swam as quickly as she could to the surface trying her hardest to hang on and not inhale the water.
She emerged from the water gasping for air and pulling the bag that held the journal out from under it with her, and Thomas pulled her into a tight hug,
"Don't ever do that again."Newt and Minho both saw the bag she was holding and shared a look, but it was Aris that asked the important question.
"Brooke, what is that?"
The light haired brunette separated from Thomas and shook her head, her eyes focusing on the ground.
With a nervous gulp of air she stuttered out her answer. "I-I don't know"
Newt was next to ask questions. He had his brow furrowed and looked confused similar to the time Brooke told him about a salamnder,
"How did you know where it was?"Brooke Chamberlin looked up from the ground making eye contact with Thomas, her eyes showing she was just as confused as the rest of them.
"Because I think I put it there."
