Somewhere between love and hate lies confusion, misunderstanding and desperate hope.

"Edward Cullen what brings you here today darling?" the secretary asked when I walked into the office.

"I was wondering if I could get a schedule change," I told her with a smile.

"Oh well you see dear, it's a bit late for a schedule change, most of the classes are already full," she started to explain. I looked at her through my eyelashes and licked my lips, "But I'll see what I can do. What classes do you want switched honey?" she asked.

I took out a copy of Isabella's schedule that I had stolen from her locker and handed it to the secretary, "I'd like my schedule to be the same as this one please," I told her with a small smile. She looked at me oddly before checking her computer.

"Well it looks good to me," she said after a minute of looking at the screen. She then pressed print and handed me a new schedule. "Have a good day dear," the secretary, who I hadn't bothered to learn the name of, called when I turned around to leave. I looked back and winked at her before walking out of the office.

Chucking the new schedule into the trash can, I already had it memorized, I walked to my locker getting my things for the next classes.

The bell rang loudly and I started towards the gymnasium. I walked slowly so I could make a big entrance and in the process, hopefully make Isabella fall in love with me again. "...student joining us next class. You probably know him, he's on the school soccer team, it's Edward Cullen. He'll be starting tomorrow." I sauntered into the gym when I heard Coach Mann say my name.

"Actually Coach, I can start today if thats okay with you," I leered. I twisted my head towards the students when I heard a short gasp. The sight I saw was beautiful. My sweet Isabella was staring at me with wide eyes, a hand covering her mouth and still as a statue. I know she was in awe at my incredible persona. I barely heard Coach Mann give his agreement into me starting gym today as I was to enthralled with Isabella. Seductively I turned and sauntered toward the changeroom to put on my workout clothes and get this party started.

By the time I walked back into the gymnasium, teams were already at courts starting to play. I sneered in distaste when I realized my Isabella was already on a team with my brothers and three other people who I had no interest in knowing. Unfortunetly for me, the team playing against theirs was already full and I had to seek out another group of humans to play with. I ended up with a group of geeks who had no volleyball skill whatsoever. At the end of class we were losing four to twenty. Since I was in a bad mood from losing I looked for Isabella but to my dismay, she was already in the changeroom. Oh well I guess I'll just have to wait until next period.

-----

"Today we will be starting a research project about authors from the past," said the English teacher, "For the next month you and a partner will have to create a presentation about an author from one hundred or more years ago." Students around the classroom began looking around and whispering at their friends about making a group. "I will be picking the partners," Mrs. Moore interupted. A chorus of groans rang throughout the classroom.

Mrs. Moore started listing names and I zoned out once again, to stare at Isabella. She hadn't noticed I was in the class yet and she was talking animatedly to the girl sitting beside her.

"Macie and Hunter you have Veronica Peth, Kayla and Michael you have Robert Riordam, Sara and Emily you have Q.E. Minton..." Mrs. Moore continued to rattle of names, "Izzy and Edward you have John Blue." Isabella's head shot up when she heard her name. Once again her eyes widened when she turned and saw me smiling at her.

"Okay class, get with your partner and use the rest of this period to brainstorm. Remember you will have to present this to the class come the end of the month, so get started," Mrs. Moore said as she strolled over to her desk to look through some of her fashion magazines.

The girl sitting next to Isabella left to go sit with her own partner, so I grabbed my stuff and walked over to her empty seat. "Hey Isabella, ready to work?" I asked enthusiastically.

"Edward you aren't in this class. Why did you switch?" Isabella whisper-yelled.

"Well Isabella, you see, I regret leaving you with all my heart, and the only way I will get better is if you fall in love with me again, so I stole your schedule and made mine identical so we could spend all of school together falling in love," I said dreamily.

"What the hell Cullen? That is so creepy. Remember that you were the one who left me. You left me here even though I begged you not to go. I don't love you anymore Edward Cullen, I probably never will again, and it's all your fault," Isabella screeched.

I gasped. How could she think like that? We were mates. I mean sure I left and sort of I guess killed her in the process, but now she's immortal. We have to be together, it's fate, right?

"Also don't forget, you killed me Edward," she spoke softly in case anyone was listening in.

"Yeah okay, I killed you. I wasn't the one who pulled the trigger Litte Miss Innocent," I sneered. How could she blame me?

Isabella took a deep breath before saying, "Edward do you know how I came to be a ghost?" I shook my head and she continued, "People become ghosts when their heart is so broken beyond repair, it can't even function properly. When you left me in that forest you broke my heart so much it stopped working. I was dying already, the gun just sped up the process."

I sucked in a breath and stared at Isabella. She had glassy eyes and was slightly out of breath even though she had no reason to be. I hadn't known how she felt and now that she told me I felt horrible. I really did kill her. I couldn't let her see how bad I felt though, that would probably make it worse, so I blurted out the first thing that came to my mind, "You should thank me Bella. You became immortal because of me. Isn't that what you always wanted? To become immortal and leave your family to come live with us vampires?" I regretted it immediately.

Isabella's hand flew to her mouth and she looked me with so much hurt in her eyes I had to look away. "I hate you you Edward. How could you say that? I loved you. I still love you, but I guess you just proved that you haven't changed." Her hand swung and before I realized what she was doing my head snapped to the side with a stinging slap and Isabella sprinted out of the now silent classroom.
