Vaccination time had been split up into six different times: 1:00pm for year seven, 2:00pm for year eight, 3:00pm for year nine, 4:00pm for year ten, 5:00pm for year eleven and 6:00pm for year twelves.
Chance and I decided to go for a walk through the woods while we waited for 3pm to roll around.
Twigs snap underfoot as we walk by the lake, trudging through the gorgeous Canadian landscape, admiring the view.
The camp's surrounded by a large electric fence that's submerged by trees, so you can't see it from the cabins or anywhere in the clearing. Chance and I made it our goal to find it initially, however we got distracted when we found Lake Mermaid. It's utterly beautiful.
The afternoons sun glistens on the slightly agitated water, making the blinding golden light dance and shimmy across the lake. And against this lovely water setting, pine trees are scattered around the bay on the opposite side of the lake. The trees flow through the scene continuously, until they're just dark green colours climbing up and down small hills. In the distance, the snowy mountains stand mightily.
"What was Gabby talking to you about before I came?" Chance asks after the conversation dies out whilst we gaped at the scene.
I laugh lightly at the conversation we had just an hour before. "She was extremely nervous to ask why my parents are black and I'm not."
He laughs too. "Must be sick of that question, hey?"
"Oh yeah," I say, thinking back to everyone who's seen my parents and me in the same room and asked that very question. "I mean, can't you just piece it together, people? Their black, I'm white, we're clearly not blood related. Unless they've kidnapped me, it's pretty obvious I'm adopted."
"How is the fam, anyways?" He asks.
"Good. Actually -" the question reminded me of something I have to do. I pull out my phone from my back pocket. "I better give her a text, to see how she's going."
"There's not going to be any service out here," Chance says.
"Wrong," I say. I show him the screen, four full white bars displayed in the top left corner. "I saw a phone tower just before the camp gates."
I stop walking and spot a patch of soft, rock-free, stick-free sand. I walk the three steps it takes to get there. "Let's just sit here and chill." I say.
Chance nods as I begin typing my message to mum.
Hey mum! I arrived safely. All good here.
It only takes her a second to reply.
Hey Max! Glad it's all good :) Having fun?
Yes, lunch was incredible. I had a bite of six different cakes plus mousse, ice-cream and two serving of proper lunch.
Max! You better not do that everyday or you'll be on a diet when you get back ;)
A diet'd be worth it! I'm off: going to go enjoy the landscape. I'll send you a photo - it's legit incredible.
I snap a quick photo of the view and send.
Oh wow! Gorgeous! Enjoy yourself!
Will do! Later!
Then I head over to my current conversation with Nick.
Hey Nikkie! Wassup? Arrived at Aunt Lil's yet?
