Chapter 7 – Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep…
{Tally POV}
Ricky and the others needed to go out and feed…it had been weeks since they had last hunted and they were growing weaker by the day and I knew they’d have to go soon anyway…so I decided to make them go. I felt Ricky beside me and turned; he smiled down at me and I reached one hand up to trail my fingers down his cheek gently. “You need to hunt…”
“We can wait.” Ricky tried to assure me.
“Yeah, after last time with Angie…” Chris trailed off for a moment as he pulled Angie closer to him. “I’m not letting another in my clan experience that anguish again.”
“You were on the road before…on tour.” I tried to reason. “I’m protected here…the boundary spell works…as I found out rather painfully…” I trailed off and smiled a little as they all laughed quietly. “They can’t get me here…and if you starve yourselves anymore…you won’t be able to protect yourselves…I don’t want that on my conscience.”
“I don’t know how you did that…but you’re being considerate by being slightly selfish…” Chris smirked at me and then looked at Ricky. “What a wonderful vampire your mate will make.”
“Thanks.” I smiled and looked down at the ground for a moment before looking up at Ricky and kissing him sweetly, ignoring the cutsie noises the guys gave us. I shivered lightly as I pulled back. “Now, get that smexy ass out that door and go feed…” I turned to the others. “And that goes for you lot too!”
“Hear that Ricky?” Balz smirked as he flashed behind us. “Your girl thinks my ass is-”
“I meant get your butt out the door and go hunt, you-” he turned me around and pressed a finger to my lips to quiet me.
“I’m only teasing, Tally.” Balz winked and I gave him a light shove. He chuckled as he looked from me to Ricky. “Touchy, touchy!”
As the others began to make their way outside I turned and pulled Ricky down for another kiss. “Hurry back to me…”
“I promise…just…don’t leave the area covered by the boundary spell.” He smirked slightly, but his voice was laced with real concern.
“I promise…” I smiled warmly and pressed one last chaste kiss against his lips. “Now,” I playfully pushed him towards the door. “Go feed.”
He chuckled darkly as he kissed my forehead. “Be good…”
I laughed out loud as he began walking to the door. “Aren’t I always?”
He stopped by the door, his hand on the handle, and smiled wickedly at me. “No…” his eyes flashed bright with desire for a moment…and then he closed the door and followed the others.
I smiled and leant back against the wall, brushing hair out of my face as I looked at the clock…midnight. They’d be gone for some time, and I was tired. So tired that as soon as I lay down on the couch in the living room…I went straight to sleep…
***
I awoke to a sound akin to thunder echoing around the house. Slowly, I stood and walked through the house; hesitantly making my way out the back door and looking up with wide eyes. I didn’t know where they were coming from, but balls of light were hitting the outside of the protective boundary spell every few seconds, and each time the sound was louder.
Then, with a horrific shrieking sound, I saw the shield the spell created crack and shatter; my hands flying up to cover my ears as I crouched on the ground with my head down. “Your friends need to be more aware of current events…” I heard the voice of the Head Hunter and swallowed as I looked up; cringing away as my former leader came to kneel in front of me. “You see…while you have access to spells of protection…we’re controlling the only person in the district with the power to destroy those spells.” She looked over her shoulder as part of the wooded back fence splintered and fell over, revealing a young woman with dark blue hair and spider bites standing watching with a glazed over expression. “Poor dear doesn’t even know she’s doing it…which is the best bit, coz she’d annihilate us if she knew.” I looked back to the Head Hunter as I saw her fist clench. “You’re the first Hunter in over two hundred years to fall victim to the mating process…a shame seeing as you were such a promising trainee…” she swung her fist, hitting my temple and making my vision go black as she continued. “But not indispensable…” I groaned as I felt her kick me hard in the ribs and fell onto my side.
