Zoe POV

I shifted as soon as I got within a mile from my school I raced to the pack house only to find Jennifer and two others with her blocking the way to the door.

"I'll just move on passed you..." I practically whispered.

"Look... you little man stealer." Jennifer sneered, "You're not going anywhere. No one, I mean NO ONE rejects my boyfriend, especially, a nobody like you.” She paused.

“You will march right back to the school and let him reject you in an orderly fashion just like it should have happened."

"How did you know about me rejecting Jace?" I questioned.

"I overheard you guys in the Spanish room." She laughed.

"You should have seen the look on your face when you realized Jace was your mate. We've been trying to keep this little secret for three years and we can't let some little brat, such as yourself, keep me from becoming the next Luna.” Her glare hardened.

“Jace said he would never be attracted to you, but I know better. Once you have been around your mate for three years after you first shift, you become irresistible to your mate.”

"So what are you going to do?” I stuttered even though I was sure what the answer was going to be.

"Oh we're gonna kill you. Cause your time is up."

She lunged at me

In these moments is when I wish that Jake were still here. A heart of stone replaced my breaking one. Jake wasn’t here now so I would have to do what I’ve never done, but have always wanted to do before.

I step-sided her and shifted as I grabbed hold of her side.

Shifting in front of others was risky. I was one the rare pure white wolves with swirls, stars and flowers along my side. I wounded her just enough to distract her and take out her other wolves.

I watched her shift back then tied her to the tree behind us with the same rope she would have used on me.

"Don't kill me!" she begged "I'm too pretty to die!" she screamed.

"I beg to differ." I said just to scare her.

I would never kill anyone, even her. I ran deeper into the woods and shifted. I don't know how long I ran for two, three hours. I needed to get as far away from danger as possible. Running away was my only option. Back the pack I had no one. My parents had died in a rogue attack when I was just 4 months old. My grandmother took me in but died a year later leaving me alone and defenseless at age one.

People made up stories like my parents and all my relatives faked their deaths so they wouldn't have to take care of me. I cried every time I would hear one of the stories.

After three hours of running, a very handsome young man attacked me.

He had strong arms and curly brown hair, and very familiar Hazel eyes.

Jake? I though. No impossible he said his pack was like over 80,000 miles away from me. I couldn't have run that fast. I haven’t seen him in 8 years so there was no way to tell for sure. It’s probably just my overheated almost dead eyes playing tricks on me.

I showed him my neck to say I meant no harm. He pinned me to the ground as he shifted and asked who I was.

"Zoe." I whispered. Then I slipped into darkness.
